WORLD COMMUNITY DAY WILL BE OBSERVED IN VALLEY

Two local churches will celebrate World Community Day on Friday. Northside Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg will play host to Anne Haynes Price at a service that highlights children and families and challenges adults to nurture children. Price is a California psychologist who specializes in parenting and relationship counseling. Children age 6 through 14 are invited to sing in the choir.

First Baptist Church in Radford will welcome Bea Covington, wife of Radford University President Douglas Covington, at 10 a.m. Nov. 3. Call Thora Jervey, 639-6447, or Anna Frye, 639-0523.

Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. This week's readings will be Sirach 35: 12-14, 16-18; Psalm 34: 2-3, 17-19, 23; 2 Timothy 4: 6-8, 16-18; Luke 18: 9-14; 2 Corinthians 5:19. The church will celebrate All Saint's Day on Tuesday with a special Mass at 7:30 p.m. 382-8028.

Fairview Methodist Church on Fairview Church Road in Christiansburg will celebrate harvest season with a worship at 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by a potluck meal at noon. 381-0335.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley, on Gladewood Road in Blacksburg, will present Russell Gregory, who will speak on ``I Finally Understand the Devil: A Response to `Women Who Run With the Wolves''' at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Ellett Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church on Misty Hill Circle in Ellett Valley will have its 5th Sunday Gospel Sing at 7 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature The Third Generation and The Highland Gospel Singers.

Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren on Prices Fork Road in Blacksburg will have its Fall Festival today, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature cider press demonstrations and hammer dulcimer music. An array of food and crafts will be available to buy. Nancy Sterling, 552-6880.

Faith Temple Church in Pearisburg will continue its Fall Festival 95 today and Sunday. A yard and craft sale will take place. Contests and other events are set for today. Blacksburg United Methodist Church will have its 53rd Holiday Bazaar Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bazaar will feature homemade crafts, candies, baked goods, canned jams and jellies and other items.

St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg is sponsoring a video series on Managing Your Money at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. In November, the church will conduct a six-week series on "Building Self Esteem in Your Mate."

Trinity Baptist Church in Christiansburg will present a video seminar on strengthening marriages Nov. 10-12. 382-8121.

The Shawsville Lay-Ministerial Association, an interdenominational gathering of churches in the Shawsville area, will help pay utility and grocery bills and emergency expenses. Keith Ritchie, 268-5901.

Youths at Auburn United Methodist Church will clean houses and do mowing or weeding. Donations will be used to go to a youth conference. 382-4318.

Christian Community Outreach in Radford has a food outreach on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available first come, first served, to people who meet USDA income criteria. 639-5686.
