The Lane Co., based in Altavista, has joined with Disney to present a Mickey Mouse collection that features the famous mouse ears on a baker's rack, on tables, on chairs - even on Lane's old standby, a cedar chest.

Rowe Furniture Corp. of Salem and Arlington, long considered a traditional manufacturer, introduced something that caught retailers by surprise: slip covers. The covers are edged in Velcro, so customers either can leave them loose for the casual look typical of slipcovers or pull them tight to imitate a traditional sofa or chair. There are matching slipcovered ottomans, too. Rowe also introduced more casual furniture designs, with looser skirts, abstract fabric patterns and more relaxed cushions.

Stanley Furniture Co. Inc. began working this summer with Ro Logrippo, a California-based writer and designer who specializes in children's rooms. With Logrippo, the company has developed what they call a "resource center" to help parents plan their kids' rooms. The centers, which will include safety information and floor plan guides, will begin appearing in retail showrooms in January. Stanley now offers 18 youth lines, which account for almost a third of the company's $200 million in annual sales, said Robin Campbell, manager of advertising and marketing services.

The Uttermost Co., a Rocky Mount manufacturer of mirrors and pictures, introduced a line of contemporary pieces including mirrored wall prisms and intaglios, or mirrors patterned with gold relief designs. They're a change from the company's usual offerings - stately framed mirrors and traditional prints. But Belle Cooper, who years ago founded the company with her husband, Robert, said Uttermost has picked up some new accounts thanks to the contemporary line. And after finishing a factory addition just nine months ago, the company is getting ready to expand its Franklin County plant again.

L. & J.G. Stickley Inc. of New York is offering a limited edition hall clock, a reproduction of a piece at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C. Only 50 clocks will be made by Stickley, the company made famous by its mission-style furniture. The clock, which is 98 inches tall and 43 inches wide, will retail for $16,997. Everyone who buys a clock will receive a complimentary two-night stay at the Grove Park Inn, complete with dinner and champagne.
