CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS II

Miller-States

Kimberly Anne States and Craig Alan Miller were united in marriage on Saturday, October 28, 1995 in an afternoon ceremony at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The Reverend Mark Washington officiated the double ring ceremony. A reception followed at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel.

The maid of honor was Kimberly Shelton of Orlando, Florida, friend of the bride. The bridesmaids were Tammy Mayer of Norfolk, friend of the bride; Joy Meador, Beth Reynolds, and Christy StJohn, all of Roanoke and friends of the bride.

The best man was Gary Miller of Vinton, father of the groom. The groomsmen were Mike Collins, Travis Lang, Garry Saunders, and Tony Wiseman, all of Roanoke and friends of the groom.

The candlelighter was Douglas States of Roanoke, brother of the bride.

The reader was Lynn Miller Jones of Roanoke, sister of the groom.

The guestbook was attended by Susie Miller of Roanoke, sister of the groom, and Stephanie Ketron of Greensboro, friend of the bride and groom.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Windsor States and the granddaughter of Mrs. Mabel States, of Roanoke, Virginia. Sh e is a graduate of William Byrd High School and Virginia Tech. She is employed by Montgomery County Public Schools.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Miller of Vinton, Virginia, and the grandson of Mrs. Helen Wuest of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He is also a graduate of William Byrd High School and Virginia Tech. He is employed by Lumsden Associates in Roanoke.

After their wedding trip, the couple will reside in Salem, Virginia.

Moyer-Neal

Kelleigh A. Neal and Douglas E. Moyer were married on August 26, 1995 at The Homestead Inn on the shores of Claytor Lake in Pulaski County, Va. The Rev. Kirk Ballin with the Unitarian Universalist Church officiated. The maid of honor was Donna L. Mitchell of Roanoke, Va. The best man was Robert Shelley of St. Louis, Mo. The reception was held by the lake immediately following the ceremony. The reggae band Wadada out of Hampton, Va., supplied the entertainment.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lenual C. Neal of Daleville, Va. She holds a B.A. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is a Senior Account Executive with Virginia Business Magazine in Roanoke. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley G. Moyer of Tonganoxie, Kan. He holds a B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. from the University of Missouri in Rolla and is an Engineer with G.E. Drive Systems in Salem. The couple honeymooned in the Central American country of Belize for a fortnight before settling into their new home in Botetourt County.

Phelps-Miller

Wendy Illene Miller and Dennis Joe Phelps were married October 28, 1995 in Faithway Baptist Church, Greensboro, N.C., with the Rev. James R. Bledsoe officiating. The reception was held at Faithway Baptist Church.

The maid of honor was Laura Elyea, friend. The matron of honor was Patricia Hopkins, friend. The bridesmaids were Donna Deaton, cousin; Lisa Grinnell, sister of the groom; Sandy Foreman, cousin; Tami Baggett, cousin; Becky Miller sister-in-law; Amy Snow, Kim Albert, and Robin Harm, all friends. Flowergirl was Rachel Grinnell, niece of the groom.

The best man was Joe Phelps, father of the groom. The ushers were Leithan Grinnell, III, brother-in-law; Joe Greer, friend; Derek Miller, brother of the bride; Jason Miller, brother of the bride; Wally Hopkins, David King, Dave Newman and Jay Martin, all friends. The guestbook was attended by Deborah P. Moser and Lori C. Rich.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman O. Miller of Greensboro, N.C. She is a graduate of Bob Jones University, Greensboro, N.C. She is employed by Guilford Mills, Inc.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Joe Phelps of Salem, Va. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and is employed by Old Dominion Trucking Lines.

The newlyweds will live in Greensboro, N.C., after their wedding trip to San Diego, Calif.

Puckett-Howell

Shannon Mary Howell and Bruce Randall Puckett were married at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 1995 in House Of The Rising Son of Roanoke Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Curtis R. Howell, the bride's father, officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her grandfather, Walter L. Henley. The reception was held in the church fellowship hall.

Miss Tammy Marie Howell, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Matron of honor was Mrs. Bonnie Lou Henley, aunt of the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Maria Anteria Henley, cousin of the bride. Junior bridesmaids, that carried the bride's train down the aisle, were Miss Kaylin, Kara and Kallie Jenkins, triplets, friends of the family. Flowergirls were Cheyenne Michelle Howell and Cherokee Dawn Howell, sisters of the bride.

The best man was Joey Dooley, friend of the groom. Ushers and candlelighters were Daniel Stephen Henley, uncle of the bride, and the Rev. Jack Clark Payne, friend of the family. Ringbearer was Jeremiah Curtis Howell, brother of the brid e.

Music was provided by Mrs. Wanda Howell, mother of the bride, who was soloist of two songs, ``The Rose'' and ``The Lord's Prayer''.

The bride wore a Victorian style Alfred Angelo designer white satin gown with sequins and pearls with lace roses, and having a chapel length train. She carried a bouquet of purple and white roses with baby's breath.

The bride is the daughter of the Revs. Curtis and Wanda Howell of Montvale, Va. She is a graduate of Liberty High School, Bedford, Va., and Bedford Educational School of Cosmetology. She is employed by Headlines Hair Salon, Vinton, Va.

The groom is the son of Mr. Milton Puckett of Thaxton, Va., and Mrs. Nadine S. Ponting of Strongsville, Ohio. He is a graduate of Liberty High School, Bedford, Va., and Bedford Educational School of Cabinet Maker. He is employed by Salem Concrete Products, Salem, Va.

The newlyweds will live in Montvale, Va., after their wedding trip to Douthat State Park in Bath County.

Sarver-Burkus

Denise Amy Burkus and Huntre Brent Sarver eloped on October 11, 1995 in the Bahamas at the Radisson Hotel at Cable Beach, Nassau. The ceremony was held mid-afternoon on the beach.

The bride is the daughter of Alma Burch and stepdaughter of Fred Burch of Blue Ridge, Va. Her father is Wallace Stephen Burkus of Bushkill, Pa. She is a graduate of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Ma. and is currently employed by Lawrence Transportation Systems, Inc.

The groom is the son of Carmen and Barry Sarver of Daleville, Va. He graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and Va. Western College. He is employed by Architectural Concrete Products, In c

Schlipper-Phillips

Mary Elizabeth Phillips and Louis Kevin Schlipper were married on October 28, 1995 at Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. The officiating clergyman was Dr. William R. Klein. The ceremony was followed by a reception at the Hotel Patrick Henry.

The maid of honor was the bride's cousin, Catherine Grace Starkey. The bridesmaids were Cynthia Ann Starkey, also a cousin of the bride, and friends of the bride, Kristin Ann Walker and Pamela Sue Mason.

The best man was Rhett Daniel Hudson, friend of the groom. The groomsmen were brother of the bride, Nathan Murray Phillips, and friends of the groom, Richard John Lamoreaux and Robert Carlton Osberg.

The guestbook was attended by Phyllis Young Starkey, aunt of the bride.

The bride is the daughter of Mary Young Phillips and Freeman Murray Phillips, Jr. of Troutville. She is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School and Virginia Tech.

The groom, son of April Jean Bohannan of Durham, N.C., and Louis Wilmer Schlipper of Sunnyvale, Calif., is a graduate of Virginia Tech. He is employed by Origin Systems, Inc.

The newlyweds will live in Austin, Texas, after their wedding trip.

Smith-Harrison

Lutheria Arrett Harrison and James Eugene Smith were married September 2, 1995 in Wichita, Kan. at the Greater St. Mary's Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. W. C. Thomas of Greater St. Mary's and Dr. E. T. Burton of Sweet Union Baptist Church in Roanoke, Va., officiated. The bride is the daughter of Patricia and Terry Harrison of Wichita, Kan. The groom is the son and stepson of Charles and Lou Jane Basham, Ro anoke, Va., and Nathaniel and Beverly Smith, Fort Washington, Md. The bride is a graduate of Raldolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va. and currently works as a paralegal coordinator/recruiter for the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. The groom attended East Carolina University and is a Corporate Records Manager for Optelecom, Inc. in Gaithersburg, Md. The couple resides in Alexandria, Va

Steptoe-Scott

Stephanie Rena Scott and George Alexander Steptoe, Jr. were married on September 16, 1995, 2:00 p.m. at High Street Baptist Church with Rev. Noel C. Taylor, officiating. The reception was held at St. Elias Social Hall.

The bride is the daughter of Ms. Maxine Juanita Scott and the late Mr. Robert L. Scott, Sr., and the granddaughter of Mrs. Marie Mason.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George (Marcella) Steptoe, Sr. and the grandson of Mrs. Othelia Davis.

Presentation of the bride was given by her brother, Mr. Robert L. Scott, Jr.

The maid of honor was Ms. Catherine Jones; matron of honor was Mrs. Dorothy Ross; bridesmaids were Mrs. Allison Collini, Mrs. Yvonne Johnson, Ms. Keshua Luter and Ms. Angela Sweetenberg, all friends of the bride.

The best man was Mr. Herbert Belton, friend of the groom; groomsmen were Mr. Vincent Board, cousin of the groom; Mr. Kevin Dickerson, Mr. Gary Hillard, Mr. Eric Traylor and Mr. Adrian Wade, all friends of the groom.

Miss Tyra Frye and Miss LaShawna Wright, cousins of the bride, were flower girls and Master Terrail Steptoe, nephew of the groom, was the ringbearer.

Ushers were Mr. Mark Napier, cousin of the bride; Mr. Jeffrey Higgins, Mr. Kevin Johnson and Mr. Thaddeus Jones, all friends of the groom.

Hostesses were Mrs. Rosiland Brown, Mrs. Porschelle Frye, Mrs. Cynthia Williams, all cousins of the bride; Ms. Clintonia Steptoe, sister of the groom; Ms Tynisha Steptoe, niece of the groom; Mrs. Vanessa Higgins, Ms. Valerie Howard and Ms. Renee Wright, all friend of the brid e.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. and Angeline L. Jones served as wedding consultants.

The bride is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School; attended Norfolk State University and is employed by Economic Policy Institute, Washington, D.C.

The groom is a graduate of William Fleming High School and is employed by Virginia Department of Transportation, Arlington, Va.

The newlyweds will live in Alexandria, Va., after the wedding trip to Poconos, Pa.

Taylor-Colvin

Stacy Marie Colvin and Edwin McClendon Taylor were united in marriage October 21, at Christ Episcopal Church, Roanoke. The Reverend Deborah H. Hunley officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thomas Colvin of Horseheads, New York. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Arlene Harper Colvin of Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Paul Jennings Colvin. Maternal grandparents are the late Dr. and Mrs. Richard Alfred Bennett.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Lake Erie High, Jr. of Columbia, S.C. and the late Henry London Taylor, Jr. He is the grandson of Mrs. Margaret McClendon Timberlake of Columbia and the late Thomas Howard Timberlake and also the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry London Taylor.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore a natural silk gown with an extended chapel length train. The gown was detailed with Alencon lace applique covered in pearls and clear crystals. She wore a finger tip length veil and carried a cascading bouquet of fresh flowers.

Lori Michelle Elliott served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Kara Louise Gibbon and Mary Elizabeth Larson.

Best man was Henry London Taylor, III, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Christopher Sean Enloe and Stephen Paul Colvin.

Ushers were David Sewanee Bull, James Browning Hayter, James Richard Kivlighan, Jr., Paul Fletcher White, Jr., and Carter Timberlake McElveen.

A program of wedding music was performed by Sarah Elizabeth Colvin, soloist, and H. Thomas Baugh, organist. Lectors were Jill Cunningham Loftis and Lisabeth Hofmaier Ellis. Guestbook attendant was Emily Claire Benson and special assistants were Josha Nuttall Benson, Mary Kathryn Colvin, Elizabeth Sherwood Gregg and Sherie Marie Oakey. The wedding director was Elizabeth Kay Larson.

The bride's parents hosted the reception in the Grand Ballroom at the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel. The rehearsal party hosted by the groom's family was held at Hidden Valley Country Club. A bridal luncheon was given at Billy's Ritz by Lois Chambers, Cathy Nester, and Sandra Ridinger. A wedding day lunch was given by Margaret Timberlake, Nancy and Walter McElveen, and Ann Timberlake and Ben Gregg. Various other showers and parties were given for the bride and groom in Columbia, Richmond, Salem and Roanoke.

After a wedding trip to Quebec City and Montreal, the couple will live in Roanoke where the bride is an Associate with the law firm, Woods, Rogers, and Hazlegrove, and the groom is New Editor, The Fincastle Herald.

Yates-Arnold

Lynne Ellen Arnold and Joseph Edgar Yates, Jr. were united in marriage on October 6, 1995 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Salem, Va. The Rev. Alan Thorne officiated the ceremony.

The bride is a daughter of Bill and Ellen Arnold of Salem and is employed by Crestar Mortgage. The bridegroom is the son of Edgar and Hazel Yates of Salem and is employed with the City of Salem.

The couple will reside in Salem.
