Joel Kotkin will be the second speaker in Roanoke College's lecture series, ``Korea and the United States: Continuity and Change,'' to be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the college's Antrim Chapel.
Kotkin will speak on ``Ethnic Identity in the Global Economy.''
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule. To mark this occasion, the college is presenting a set of lectures and programs on Korea and its relation to the United States and the world.
The last fall term event in the series is Nov. 15. Donald Clark will speak on the ``History of Modern Korea: Division, Unity and Development.''

Poetry reading
Patricia Smith, poet, playwright, performer and columnist for the Boston Globe, will read from her works Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Jack Lounge, Smith Hall, Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg.
Smith has written three volumes of poetry and is six-time national champion in a poetry slam.
