GALAX REMAINS UNBEATEN 78-42

Galax took one more step toward an undefeated regular season by using balanced scoring to overwhelm Fort Chiswell 78-42 in a Mountain Empire District game Monday night in Max Meadows.

The Maroon Tide (19-0 overall, 8-0 district) can clinch the regular-season district title with a victory over Narrows on Wednesday. Galax was led by Erin Kyle, who scored 17 of her game-high 20 points in the first half. She had eight in the second quarter as Galax outscored Fort Chiswell 29-9 to break open the game.

Tammy Cox scored 10 of her 19 points in the second quarter to aid the Maroon Tide. Mindy McGrady added 14 points.

Fort Chiswell (6-12, 5-4) was led by Kristen Harmon and ToshiaSmith, who scored 11 each.

Narrows 68, Bland 29 Suzanne Webb scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as the Green Wave rolled to the Mountain Empire District victory over the Rockets in Bland.

Narrows will meet Galax on Wednesday night in a rematch of the district's top two teams. Galax won the first meeting last week.

The Green Wave also got 15 points from Melissa Lucas.

Bland (0-17, 0-9) was led by Pachess Umbarger, who scored 10.

Grayson County 53, Rocky Gap 33 Lindsey Carico scored a game-high 18 points, and the Blue Devils took a 13-2 first-quarter lead en route the the Mountain Empire District victory over the Eagles in Rocky Gap.

Carico scored 10 of her points in the third quarter as Grayson County opened an 11-point lead.

Rocky Gap (2-16, 2-6) closed to 36-29 in the fourth quarter behind Melissa Leedy, who scored seven of her team-high 14 points in the quarter, but could get no closer.

Floyd County 68, Giles 30 Melissa Cantrell showed no ill effects from an ankle injury suffered last week, scoring a game-high 19 points as Floyd County clinched the Three Rivers District title with the win over Giles on Senior Night in Floyd.

Cantrell scored 13 of her team's 17 points in the first quarter as Floyd County (15-5, 7-0) took a 17-4 lead and coasted. Cantrell, who had four steals and five assists, finished with 16 first-half points and Sara Conner added 10 for the Buffaloes.

Giles was led by Lori Talbert, who scored eight points.

George Wythe 59, Chilhowie 42: Alethea Lemieux had her career game as the Maroons defeated the Warriors in a Hogoheegee District game in Wytheville.

Lemieux, a junior forward, scored 12 of her 13 points in the second quarter as George Wythe opened a 39-24 lead. She finished the game with 16 rebounds as the Maroons dominated the boards 46-31.

Tabitha Cook scored 14 points and Megan Johnson added 13 for Wythe (12-7, 10-5). Emily Blevins led Chilhowie with 12 points.

Blacksburg 70, Christiansburg 45 April Rogers scored six of her 19 points in the first quarter as the Indians opened a 19-5 lead and went on to beat the Blue Demons in a New River District game in Christiansburg.

Rogers finished with 11 first-half points for Blacksburg. Andrea Feret scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter as the Indians pulled away.

Christiansburg (6-14, 1-3) was led by Lisa Dalton, who scored 11 points.
