MAN DIES FROM INJURIES AFTER CAR CRASH

A 38-year-old Wythe County man died Sunday from injuries sustained in a head-on collision on Petunia Road, south of U.S. 11, shortly after 7 p.m.

The Wytheville Police Department identified the victim Monday as Salvador M. Simon of Route 4, Wytheville. He was the driving north on Petunia Road and crossed over into the southbound lane, according to police.

The car collided with a sedan owned by Pamela Sue Belcher of Wytheville and driven by her 17-year-old son. She was treated at Wythe County Community Hospital and released; her son was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries and later released. Two other children in the Belcher car, ages 2 and 3, escaped injury.

Simon was pronounced dead at Wythe County Community Hospital. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.
