ANDREWS, Ethel Pualine, 82, of Galax, died Sunday, October 29, 1995in Twin County Regional Hospital. She is survived by five cousins, Mrs. Nell Farmer, Mrs. Jewel Bartlett, both of Woodlawn, Mrs. Alice Anderson, Galax, Mr. O. R. Robinson, Buchanan, Va., Mr. Scott Robinson, Silver Springs, Md. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Perkins officiating. BROWN, Nathan Ryan, 4, of Roanoke, passed away in his family's arms on Sunday, October 29, 1995. After battling leukemia for nearly half his short life, he is finally at peace. Nathan is survived b y his mom and dad, Denise and Gene; sister, Megan, of the home; brother, Willie, Homestead, Fla.; grandparents, Norma Massie, Bill and Helen Brown, Wilson Potts, all of Roanoke; aunts and uncles, Debbie and Mike Dowling, Sterling, Donna Potts, Dana and Cary Boggs, Lynn and Earl Cauley, Tammy Cundiff, Jackie Ann and Bud Brown, Beth and Chris Shelton, all of Roanoke; a very special great-aunt, ``Granny Judy'' Cook, Roanoke; numerous cousins and friends. HEIZER, James Carlton (J.C.), 79, of Lexington, died Monday, October 30, 1995. Mr. Heizer was born April 16 , 1916 in Augusta County. A son of the late Byron Hogue Heizer and Edna Cox Heizer Heslep. In 1956, J.C. operated the ""29"" Truck Stop in Ruckersville. He then built the first truck stop here in the valley in 1958. Mr. Heizer was the owner/operator of the Lee-Hi Truck Stop until 1971. At that time he became a Land and Home Developer which resulted in the building of over 40 homes. He was a member of the Vesuvius Baptist Church and the Stonewall Jackson Auxiliary. Surviving are his wife Bernice Payne Heizer, Fairfield; two daughters and sons-in law, Robin Heizer-Farris and Victor Farris, Fairfield, Jeams Ann Cason and Melvin Cason, Ruckersville; one son and daughter-in law, Stanley Duane Heizer and Nancy Heizer, Covington; grandchildren, Damien Zachary Carlton Farris, Caleb Nicholas Wiloughby Farris, both of Fairfield, Donna Cason-Fitz, Charlottesville, Susan Cason Cooke and Rick, Glen Allen, Melody Cason Taylor and Andrew, Richmond, Timmy Cason and Ruth Marie, Newport News, Nathan and Matthew Olewine, Covington; great-grandchildren, Hunter Taylor, Richmond, Eric and Kevin Cooke, Glen Allen; two sisters, Charlene Heizer, Fairfield, Francis Heizer, Mint Springs; three brothers, Pete Heslep, Charlottesville, Jack Heslep, Brownsburg, Paul Heslep, Fairfield. HELMS, Lockie Jones, 84 of Marion, died Sunday, October 29, 1995 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, served as Treasurer of the Smyth County Mental Health Association for six years and served as a Pink Lady at Smyth County Community Hospital for eight years. Mrs. Helms is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edythe Jones Gwyn, Marion; two nephews, Clayborne Gwyn, Marion, Hugh Gwyn, Marion. several great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with Dr. J. N. Howard and the Rev. Pam Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. HENDERSON, James E., 72, of Lexington, died Monday, October 30,1995 in the local hospital. A son of the late Robert Henderson and Mrs. Fannie Henderson Woolens, he was born January 22, 1923 in Lexington. After graduating from the Henderson Institute, Henderson, North Carolina, he served honorably in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Randolph Street United Methodist Church, the Blue Ridge Shooters Club and the Board of Directors of the Rockbridge Area Housing Corporation. He was a retiree from Modine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Venus Echkstien Henderson, Lexington; a son, Sean F. Henderson, Glen Burnie, Md.; and other relatives and friends. Friends may call at the residence on Route 5, Lexington, at any time and at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Randolph Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. JACKSON, Mark R., (``Bob""), 81, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 29,1995. He was the widower of Frances D. Stockton Jackson, a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, and an Army Veteran of World War II. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Guy R. and Jean Stockton, Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Stockton and Jim Hill, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Martha Gregory, Deltona, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Susie J. JEFFRIES, Henry Lee, 78, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, October 29, 1995. JOHNSON Claude Edward 83, of Route 1, Bedford died Sunday, October 29, 1995 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Botetourt County, June 17, 1912, a son of the late Levi Joseph Johnson and Katie Vernie Rhodes Johnson. He was a Founding Member of Bedford Church of God where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years and an Army Veteran of World War II. He retired from Hampton Looms of Virginia with 38 years of service and had been employed by the Bedford County School Board and Bedford County Memorial Hospital. he is survived by his wife, Isabelle Craig Johnson; two sons, Nelson E. Johnson and Phillip W. Johnson; five daughters, Evelyn J. Watson, Geraldine J. O'Connell, Brenda J. Manley, Dorothy J. Looney and Diane J. Lacy all of Bedford; two brothers, James Johnson of Bedford and Willie A. Johnson of Thaxton; a step-brother, John Laughlin of Goode; three sisters, Alice J. Wolford of Bedford, Minnie J. Powell and Mary J. Jordan both of Lynchburg; also 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. PITZER Ashby Mathews Jr. beloved husband of Lois ""Jodie"" Pitzer, died Saturday, October 28, 1995. He was born Jan uary 22, 1922, to Burnace and Ashby Pitzer. ""Ash"" was retired from Ingersoil-Rand Co., and was the owner/operator of Pitzer Pneumatic Service. Inc., A small hydraulic/pneumatic repair service in Elliston. ""Ash"" enlisted in the US Coast Guard on December 8, 1941. He saw action in Okinawa, Iwojima and the Phillipines. He and Jodi celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary, August 19th. Ashby was a devoted father and doting grandfather. Along with his wife surviving are; his son; Ashby Mathews Pitzer III, daughters & sons-in-law; Penelope Anne Pitzer Webster & husband Glenn C. Webster; Jacqueline Louise Pitzer Morris & husband Kevin R. Morris, grandchildren; Matthew Lee Webster, Sarah Kathryn Morris, & Kyle Ashby Morris. Also surviving are three Aunts; Mrs. Edna Burnette, wife of the late William B. Burnette; Mrs. Edith Carey, wife of the late Dr. Sheldon D. Carey; and Mrs. Arnita Scanland, wife of the late Horace M. STROUPE, William Cecil, (``Billy''), 52, of Route 1, Max Meadows, died Sunday, October 29, 1995 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Cecil Roosevelt and Willie Taylor Stroupe. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Electric Union for 33 years. He is survived by his wife, Edna Faye Stroupe, Max Meadows; one daughter, Karen Denise Stroupe, Max Meadows; one son, William Jack Stroupe, Max Meadows; one sister, Mrs. Garland (Barbara Ann) Catron, Wytheville; one brother, Gary Wayne Stroupe, Max Meadows. STUMP, Howard L., 93, of Christiansburg, died Sunday morning, October 29, 1995 at his home. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Church of God of Prophecy in Radford, conducted by the Rev. Cecil Frazier and the Rev. Ron Bryant, with burial in the Den Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home.

SWARTZELL, Randall W., of Vinton, died Sunday, October 29, 1995. He was retired from the Ladish Company of Cudahy, Wis. after 30 years service. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II, participating in the Invasions of Linguyen Gulf, Iwo Jimo and Okinawa and received two Distinguished Flying Crosses, six Air Medals, and two Presidential Unit Citations. He served aboard U.S.S. Wake Island (CVE-65) and the U.S.S. Marcus Island (CVE-77) with VOC-1 as a Combat Air Crewman on a Torpedo Bomber. He was a member and Treasurer of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Vinton. Surviving are his wife, Alice Gene Burgher Swartzell; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Eve Swartzell, Annapolis, Md., Patrick and Nanci Swartzell, Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren, Kevin Daude, Joel Swartzell, Peyton Swartzell; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Wendy Swartzell, Paradise, Calif.; sister-in-law, Anna Kathryn Burgher, Silver Creek, Miss. Memorial services 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 1995, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, conducted by Dr. Harold Uhl. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church or your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the church before and after the service.
