BASSETT BITES LAUREL PARK

Heather Miller made all six of her free-throws attempts in the fourth quarter as Bassett pulled away for a 51-38 Piedmont District victory over the Laurel Park Lancers on Tuesday night at Bassett.

The Bengals (10-9 overall, 10-7 district) were 10-of-13 from the line in the last eight minutes.

Miller finished with 13 points and Jaimie Hylton had 11. April Merriman added 10 for Bassett.

Northside 59, Alleghany 37: The Vikings used a 27-10 fourth quarter to blow open a five point game in their victory over the Mountaineers in the Blue Ridge District.

Alleghany center Melissa Page fouled out in the first 15 seconds of the quarter, and that opened the door for Northside.

Natasha Chapman led Alleghany (10-10, 2-7) with 10 points.

Magna Vista 72, Chatham 30: Sophomore Sandi Reid scored a game-high 20 points to lead Magna Vista (12-8, 11-6) to an easy Piedmont District win over Chatham in Ridgeway.

Tanesia Kellam added 16 for the Warriors.

Northwood 61, Rural Retreat 54: Northwood made 8 of 10 free-throw attempts down the stretch, including 4-of-4 shooting by Jess Prater as the Panthers (19-2, 17-0) remain undefeated in the Hogoheegee District with the win over host Rural Retreat (13-5, 11-5).

James River 55, Bath County 41: Amy Sprinkle, Julie Firebaugh, and Nakia Burrell busted loose offensively and James River broke the Bath County press as the Knights (6-13, 6-5) rolled to a Pioneer District victory.

Sprinkle scored 16, and Firebaugh and Burrell each added 16 for James River.

Salem 71, Rockbridge 30: Shellie Johnson scored 19 points to lead the Spartans (15-3, 8-1) to a Blue Ridge District blowout of the Wildcats (3-14, 1-8) at Salem.

Monday's game

Rural Retreat 61, Holston 55: At Damascus, Mary Brewer scored 12 points and Rural Retreat opened a lead in the fourth quarter to take a Hogoheegee District win. Stacy Wright had a game-high 29 for Holston.
