RELIGION BRIEFS

PARTNERSHIP MISSIONS, a Virginia Southern Baptist missionary program, will focus on Panama, the Czech Republic and Slovenia in the coming year. In 1994, the Roanoke Valley Association sent more than 80 people on international mission work trips to Mexico City, Costa Rica and Hungary.

People with skills in evangelism, Bible school teaching and family counseling are needed for Panama from Feb. 23 through May 26,1996. A construction team to work in the Czech Republic also will be sought in the spring of 1996. Call 992-4943 for information about the international partnerships.

BOAR'S HEAD FEASTE, an annual program of dinner and music for Advent based on old English festivities, will be held Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and 2 at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Admission is $15 , and tickets are available by sending a check made out to Feaste: to P.O. Box 8538, Roanoke, 24014, before Nov. 8.

AT VALLEY WORD MINISTRIES,1928 Loch Haven Drive, a concert featuring David and the Giants, a Christian rock band, and the Holywind ensemble is scheduled Friday at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 at the doors, which open at 6 p.m.

JERRY and CAROL BRECHEISEN, musicians and evangelists from Indianapolis, Ind., will visit First Wesleyan Church Sunday for a program at 6 p.m. The church is at 3706 Peters Creek Road.

ALTERNATIVE SPIRITUALITY, a program for women led by the Rev. Denise Rotival Huffman, will be presented today at noon at the YWCA of Roanoke Valley in downtown Roanoke. The hour-long bag lunch program will focus on six Greek goddesses representing aspects of personality. Huffman, a graduate of Hollins College and an ordained minister, is pastor of Lawrence Memorial United Methodist Church on Bent Mountain.

CAMP BETHEL HERITAGE DAY, an annual observance supported by Churches of the Brethren throughout the Virlina District, attracted more than 2,000 people earlier this month. The crafts, music, food and Third World products sale brought in more than $20,000 to support the camping ministry of the Botetourt County conference center.

THE CATHOLIC HISTORICAL SOCIETY will have an open house and a sale of religious articles for the Advent and Christmas seasons at its museum at 624 N. Jefferson St. The activities will be Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The museum also is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Dec. 13 when it will be closed through Jan. 1.

THE PASTORAL CARE DEPARTMENTS of Roanoke Memorial and Community hospitals have scheduled an additional photo sitting for Roanoke Valley pastors who wish to be included in a pictorial directory. Participants may call 981-7411 for an appointment on Nov. 10 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Roanoke Memorial.

THE TABERNACLE, a presentation of River of Life Bible College, is scheduled Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Maranatha Fellowship Church, 2715 Green Ridge Road. The Rev. Roger Griffith of Salem and the Rev. Mike Marschean of New York pastor, will lead the presentation.

THE REV. JAMES GEORGE, formerly of Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Verona, has begun as pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church in Botetourt County.

AT NORTH VALLEY ADVENTIST CHURCH, the vice president for finance of the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists based in Washington, Elder Marvin Griffin, will preach Saturday at 11 a.m. The Adventists worship at 4909 Peters Creek Road. A luncheon will follow the service.

YOUTH REVIVAL SERVICES will be held Saturday and Sunday at Oakland Baptist Church, 3623 Roundhill Ave. N.W. Wade Morris, will speak , and Jason Wallis, will be the song leader, for the worship from 7 to 9 p.m. Call 366-5861 for more information.

"BACK AT THE CREEK BANK," a music and drama show, will be presented Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Colonial Baptist Church, 106 Hillcrest St. in Blue Ridge. It will feature youth and children of the church.

"THE GOSPEL TRAIN,", a play by members of Chestnut Grove Church and the Spiritual Seven, is scheduled Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, 809 Orange Ave. N.W. A $5 donation is requested.

AT HOLLINS COLLEGE, the Sunday night service will feature the Rev. Johan Kijne. He is coordinator of the European Chaplains Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. The service in du Pont Chapel at 7:30 is open to the community.

VIRGINIA HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH has chosen Kevin Lamb, a recent graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, as its new organist and minister of music. He begins his work Sunday. He and his wife, Holly, are Tennesseans by background. He took undergraduate study at Carson-Newman College and has been on the staff of a Grand Prairie, Texas, church.

THE VICTORS, a Roanoke gospel music group, will perform Sunday at 7 p.m. at Cave Spring Baptist Church, 4873 Brambleton Ave. S.W.

WINGS, a 20-member student performing group from Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, will visit Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Through music, clowning and dance, the group will present "Love Is Alive in Me, " a show to encourage Christian commitment. An offering will be taken. The church is at 3009 Mount Pleasant Blvd.

THE HELPING HANDS CLUB of Jerusalem Baptist Church has scheduled a guest drama team from Washington Street Baptist Church in Bedford on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. Led by Beulah Payne, the players will present "Flight 360" at the church at 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W.

AT MORNING STAR BAPTIST CHURCH, 1513 Rorer Ave. S.W., special music will be presented Sunday at 3 p.m. by the Roanoke group known as The Voices of Women Plus Three. The program celebrates the ninth anniversary of the L.A. Lewis Singers.

HOMECOMING will be observed Sunday at Mays Memorial United Methodist Church at Stewartsville beginning at 10 a.m. Worship will be followed by potluck lunch. At 2 p.m., the Mays Gospel Chorus and other musicians will perform. Call 890-2298 for more information.

GLENVAR BAPTIST CHURCH, 4804 Stanley Farm Road, Salem, plans a historical service Sunday at 6 p.m. It will be based on the life and work for American religious liberty of the Rev. John Leland, a Baptist pastor in Virginia prior to the American Revolution.

AT FIRST EVANGELICAL METHODIST CHURCH, 1920 Lucas St. in Salem, a Maryland Christian musician known as AnaBel will perform Sunday at 6 p.m. The program is free.

ST. MARKS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH of Daleville will hold revival services Sunday through Wednesday nightly at 7:30. Ray Tucker of Selma will speak. Music will be provided by Ed Crawford, a Southern gospel singer.
