LINKOUS GETS BOOST BUT STILL BEHIND IN FUNDS

Blacksburg-area House challenger Larry Linkous got a financial shot in the arm from Gov. George Allen and state Republicans last month, but he continues to lag behind Del. Jim Shuler, D-Blacksburg, in fund raising, according to new financial reports.

Linkous raised $19,583 last month, nearly twice his September total. Most of the money came from his political party: $10,000 in media work from the Campaign for Honest Change, Allen's political-action committee, and $4,374 in political consulting from the Joint Republican Caucus, according to campaign-finance reports filed Monday.

Linkous has accumulated $64,537 in donations, received a $6,000 loan and reported $6,672 left to spend as of Oct. 25.

Shuler raised $11,660 in October, primarily from 24 contributions of $100 or more, 12 of them from PACs. He's raised a total of $94,070 and reported $12,177 left to spend.

That advantage has allowed Shuler to outspend Linkous by $82,559 to $63,865 so far.
