Carpenter is chief executive officer of Community National Bank, Pulaski County's newest financial institution.
He was a charter member of the Pulaski Encouraging Progress economic development organization, a past president and current board member of the chamber, a member of the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance, and is vice chairman of the Economic Development Board in Pulaski.
His other activities have included the YMCA Board of Directors, United Way, Leukemia Society of America, Blue Ridge Mountains Council of Boy Scouts of America, Pulaski Band Boosters and Pulaski County High School PTA.
The chamber's annual fund-raiser award went to Sandy Brunner for her work during the chamber's annual fund-raising auction and buffet.
Brunner, an area Marriott HealthCare Division food services manager, helped land a large number of items for this year's auction including minivacations to points throughout the eastern United States.
The chamber recognized Deborah Anderson of Pulaski Community Hospital as the top salesperson in the annual membership drive.
This year's banquet at New River Community College featured Charles "Sonny" Smith, head men's basketball coach at Virginia Commonwealth University, as guest speaker.
The event concluded with 1995 chamber President Sue Berkley turning over the gavel to incoming President Christopher Dux.
