RADFORD UPSET IN MEN'S SOCCER

Fourth-seeded Radford held decisive advantages in shots and corner kicks, but could not muster a goal and fell to fifth-seeded Liberty 3-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Big South Conference men's soccer tournament in Conway, S.C. Jesse Barrington, Joel Johnson and Mike Rohrer scored the goals for the Flames (7-8-1), who were outshot 15-8 and had five corners to 10 for the Highlanders (11-5-3).

In the Big South women's tournament in Greensboro, N.C., fourth-seeded Charleston Southern blanked fifth-seeded Radford 1-0 in a quarterfinal. Kim Taber scored the only goal for the Bucs (8-10). Radford finishes 4-14-1.

Ferrum basketball standout Kia Williams held court in another sport this fall, earning first-team All-Dixie Conference honors in volleyball in voting by the league's coaches.

Averett's Brenda LaFlamme was named player of the year, the Cougars' Danny Miller was coach of the year and Greensboro's Julie Spear was named freshman of the year. Ferrum's Kristi Persinger and Susan Reagan joined Spear on the second team. (Complete team in Scoreboard. B5)

Stevie Reynolds, a former Franklin County High School standout, has been named second-team All-Dixie Conference as a goalie in men's soccer.

Methodist dominated the team, which was selected by the league's coaches, with five first-team choices, including player of the year Michael Scobee and freshman of the year Kari Reynisson. The Battling Bishops' Alan Dawson was named coach of the year.

Reynolds was joined on the second team by Panthers forward Ken Howe.

Methodist also dominated the All-Dixie women's team, with five more first-team selections, including player of the year Ruth Keegan. The Bishops' Phil Stephenson was named coach of the year, and North Carolina Wesleyan's Aija Patokoski was named freshman of the year.

Ferrum goalie Danielle Giusto and forward Susan Sautter were second-team selections. (Complete team in Scoreboard. B5)
