John O. "Dubby" Wynne, president and chief executive officer of Landmark Communications, announced these changes:
Douglas B. Fox, chief operating officer of Landmark, has resigned and the position has been eliminated.
Rugaber has been named to the additional position of president, Landmark Publishing Group. Landmark's newspaper divisions and specialty publications division will report to him. He will continue to be based in Roanoke.
Donald H. Patterson Jr., executive vice president of Landmark, has been named to the additional position of president, Landmark Broadcasting. Landmark's two TV stations will report to him.
Rugaber; Patterson; Michael J. Eckert, president of The Weather Channel; and Kevin Senie, president of The Travel Channel Networks cable divisions, will report to Wynne.
Rugaber has been with Landmark for 17 years. He has been publisher of The Roanoke Times for 13 years, and earlier was executive editor of the Greensboro, N.C., News & Record.
Prior to joining Landmark, he served as assistant news editor and deputy news editor at the Washington Bureau of The New York Times and as a reporter for The Atlanta Journal and the Detroit Free Press. He is a member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.
In addition to The Roanoke Times and the News & Record, Landmark's print holdings include the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk; four community dailies; more than 70 tri-weeklies, semi-weeklies and shoppers; and The Antique Trader Weekly and other specialty publications.
