LECTURE AT VIRGINIA TECH

James Garbarino, Cornell University professor and author of 16 books on child development, will visit Virginia Tech Thursday.

His public lecture will be on his latest book, "Raising Children in a Socially Toxic Environment." He will also meet with Tech students who have been using his books while studying child development this semester.

Many of Garbarino's books have focused on the impact violence has on children - from within families and their communities or during international conflicts. Garbarino has appeared programs "Dateline NBC" and on ABC's "20/20" and has served as a consultant for newspaper and magazine reports on violence.

In 1989, he received the American Psychological Association's Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Public Service.

Garbarino's lecture will begin at 10 a.m. in the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center.
