Shenandoah Life said Monday that it has signed a reinsurance agreement with Compdent Corp. of Atlanta, the nation's largest independent managed dental care company.
Under terms of the agreement, Shenandoah Life will reinsure business written by Compdent's Unilife subsidiary, effective from Oct. 1, 1995.
Execution of the agreement is subject to regulatory approval.
For Shenandoah Life, the deal means taking over administration of dental insurance policies previously sold to groups by Unilife, said Edward J. Machado, the Roanoke company's senior vice president and chief financial officer. Shenandoah Life will capture and administer the business, he said.
As the policies come up for renewal over the next 12 months, he said, Shenandoah Life will write the new coverage.
The agreement will increase Shenandoah Life's dental insurance revenue from $13 million to an estimated $25 million.
Machado said the boost in business will add 12 jobs at the company headquarters. The company employs 202 people at its office on Brambleton Avenue.
