BARNETT, William G. Sr., (``Bill""), 47, of Chester, and formerly of Salem, passed away Saturday, November 4, 1995. He was a 1966 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School. Preceding him in death were his father, John A. Barnett Jr.; and a brother, John Michael Barnett. Surviving are his son, William G. Barnett Jr. of Chester; his daughter, Wendy Barnett Arrington of Richlands; three grandsons, Christopher, Jeffery, and Shawn Arrington; and his mother, Frances V. Barnett of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

BARRANGER, Robert D. (``Bob''), 70, of Midlothian, died Monday, November 6, 1995. He was a native of Roanoke, and Chairman of the Board of Barranger Company, Inc. He was preceded in death by his son, Kirk L. Barranger. He is survived by his wife, Jacquelin Barranger; daughter, Mrs. Kathy Barranger Smithson, Mechanicsville; three sons, Gary A. and Phillip K. Barranger, Richmond, Randolph D. Barranger, Shakopee, Minn.; sister, Dorothy Booth, Severna Park, Md.; two brothers, Glynn D. and David L. Barranger, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Patrick, Connor, Nickolas and Kipton. He was past past president and honorary member of Roanoke Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow, past president of Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, member of Roanoke Country Club, Shenandoah Club of Roanoke, a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School, 1946 graduate of Va. Tech, Veteran of World War II, member of Salisbury Presbyterian Church, and a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, past scout master of Troop #17, long time member of Board of Boy Scouts of America. Remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, where services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke. The family requests that contributions may be made to Salisbury Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

BROWN, Roy Edward Sr., 83, of Cascade, died Sunday, March 5, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, Axton. Arrangements by Roselawn Funeral Home, Martinsville.

BURTON, Charley Edward, 83, of Eggleston, died early Monday morning November 6 1995 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles County, he was a son of the late Giles Stewart and Sallie Albert Burton. He was retired from employment with the Giles County School Board. Surviving are one sister, with whom he made his home, Virginia Burton, Eggleston; one brother Wilmont ""Dick"" Burton, Greenville, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke with the Rev. Larry Patton and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in the Walker Cemetery at Eggleston. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke Tuesday, November 7, 1995, from 6 to 9 p.m

GALLAGHER, Eugene Christopher Jr., 56, of Christiansburg, died early Monday, November 6, 1995 in the Radford Community Hospital. He is survived by a special friend, Bertha J. Martin; one daughter, Donna G. Cox, Snowville; two grandchildren, Sue Ellen Cox, Braxton Cox; a sister, Helen G. Olinger, Christiansburg; a brother, Jack Gallagher, Newport; a half brother, Rick Buck, Pulaski. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Richardson-Horne Chapel, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. GRIGGS, Barbara Ritchie, (``KRISTY''), 56, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, November 5, 1995. Surviving are her daughters, Sherry Ritchie, Richmond, Talashia (Tika) Ritchie, Roanoke, Cindy Hatley, Greensboro, N.C.; her mother, Nancy E. Martin, Roanoke; her father, Robert Largin Sr., Catawba; her brothers, Robert Largin Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Pete Martin, Houston Martin, both of Roanoke, Danny Largin, Richmond; her sisters, Julie Ross, Roanoke, Edith Branson, Bonsack, Martha Jane Largin, Richmond; several nieces and nephews; her former husband, Lee Ritchie, Roanoke; a special friend, Jacqui Underwood, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Tuesday, November 7, at noon with Bishop Steven Spencer officiating. Interment in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. KESLER, Lula Hatcher, 81, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 5, 1995. She was the widow of Robert H. Kesler and was a longtime member of the Central United Methodist Church. She had worked at Tarpley's in Salem. Her survivors include her sisters, Virginia Jones, Blue Ridge, Marie Steele, Richmond; brothers and sisters-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held at the Sherwood Memorial Park on Tuesday, November 7 at 12 noon with the Rev. Dr. William A. Davis Jr. officiating. Arrangements by John M. KNEWSTEP, E. Alan Jr. (``Skip''), 69, of Norfolk, died Sunday, November 5, 1995 in a local hospital. He was a retired Steamship Clerk with I.L.A. Local 1624, with 33 years of service. He was a lso a Chesapeake waterman and commercial crabber. He attended First Christian Church, Colonial Ave. He was involved for many years with the Boy Scouts and Sea Explorers. He served as Captain of the ""Miss Wick"" training ship and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the Broad Bay Sailing Association and served as sailing instructor for the Cavalier Yacht Club for many years. He was a former member of the Kingsman Chess Club, a member of the Elks Lodge No. 38 BPOE, and was a charter member and president of the H.R.I.L.A. Retirees Association. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his father, E. Alan ""Pappy"" Knewstep Sr. and his mother, Lucille Sanderlin Knewstep. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bane Knewstep, Norfolk; two daughters, Lynn Lani Knewstep, Marietta, Ga., Judith Ann Knewstep, Washington state; two sons, E. Alan Knewstep III, Rapidan, Karl W. Knewstep, Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Michelle, Lindsey, Angela, Travis, Natasha and Brian; two stepdaughters, Lisa S. Strange, Florida, and Candace M. Smith, Charleston, W.Va.; two stepsons, Billy Sutphin, Norfolk, and Gary Mottesheard, Lafayette, La. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, Colonial Ave., Norfolk, conducted by the Rev. Jack Austin. RANEY, Pauline W., 91, of Boonesboro, Md., died Friday, November 3, 1995. She was one of the first women in management at Macy's Department Store in New York City. She later owned the Fabric Shop in Roanoke for more than 30 years. After retirement, she volunteered with the local Red Cross and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Raney. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Browning, Hagerstown, Md.; and two grandchildren. Memorial service Wednesday at 11:30 in Hagerstown, Md.

ROY, Ernest Arthur Sr., 72, of Thonotosassa, Fla., formerly of Salem, died Monday, November 6, 1995. Arrangements by Lotz Salem Chapel.

SMITH, William, (``Bill""), 80, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, November 3, 1995. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from the Walker Foundry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Smith. Survivors include devoted nieces, Ruth Shabazz, Roanoke, Armae Brown, Christiansburg, Latisha SMith and Michelle Davis, both of Roanoke; devoted nephew, Terry Davis, Puerto Rico; brothers-in-law, William Parks, Salem and Hoge Parks of Maryland; sisters-in-law, Mollie Parks, Pembroke and Lyda Wagner, Bridgeport, Conn.; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Chapel. Bishop M. L. Hardy will officiate, with interment in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, Botetourt. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday. Friends may also call on Wednesday.
