Kentucky says `no' to Gingrich, Dole
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Democratic Lt. Gov. Paul Patton, a millionaire coal mine owner who billed himself as ``a different kind of Democrat,'' narrowly beat a Republican businessman for governor Tuesday.
Patton saw his victory as a rejection of Republican politics on the national level, including GOP efforts to cut Medicare and other social programs.
``This will be remembered as the day that Kentucky stood tall,'' Patton said. ``Kentucky has said `no' to Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole.''

Pennsylvanians agreed to relax a constitutional requirement that criminal defendants meet their accusers ``face to face'' in court. And people in Lewis County, Ky., voted against allowing the farming community of Tollesboro - angry since the county closed two schools - to secede and join the county next door.
