The Australian team limited the Cavaliers to 22-of-60 (37 percent) shooting from the floor, including a 2-for-11 effort by point guard Harold Deane.
Virginia also got little offensively from its starting front line as Jamal Robinson, Norman Nolan and Chris Alexander combined for only 14 points. Brisbane's starting frontcourt of Mitchell, Goodwin and Leroy Loggins produced 56 points and outrebounded its Cavaliers counterparts 20-13.
Curtis Staples, a former Patrick Henry High School standout, led the Cavaliers with 16 points. Deane added 12 to go with eight rebounds and two assists.
UVa led 29-28 at halftime, but Brisbane outscored the Cavaliers 31-11 in the first 11:19 of the second half to take control. Loggins picked up 13 of his 15 points in that run.
Jeff Jones, Virginia's coach said he didn't know what to expect from Brisbane going into the game, ``But what I did expect was to see us give an honest effort, and we certainly didn't give that as a team. ... The most upsetting thing is our attitude and the lack of hustle.''
The Cavaliers play their second exhibition game Nov.16 against Court Authority at U-Hall.
