AMIS, Frances A., 55, of Shacklefords, died Tuesday, November 7, 1995, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester. The Roanoke native was formerly employed as a clerk/typist for the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. She was a member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Roanoke. She is survived by her husband, Harvey J. Amis, Shacklefords; a son, Richard L. Barbour Jr. of Richmond; four stepchildren, Geraldine Foreman of New Jersey, James Amis of Dover, Del., Richard Amis of West Point and Office Bingham of Shacklefords; three sisters, Sandra Reed of Mansfield, Ohio, Sarah Barlow of Roanoke and Rachael Lynch of Hampton; stepmother, Dorothy Barlow of Hampton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson, and a daughter-in-law, Dannette Barbour. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Antonio D. Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. ANDERSON, Edith Bott, 79, of Abingdon, died Thursday, November 9, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, Campbell Funeral Home Chapel.

ANDERSON, Hester Pauline (``Polly''), 77, of Pembroke, died Wednesday evening, November 8, 1995 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born at Zenith in Monroe County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Rosser and Vera Showers Miller. Polly was a faithful member of Pembroke Christian Church and was an operator for Pembroke Mutual Telephone Co. for many years. She was the wife of the late Harry R. Anderson and grandmother of the late Rhonda Blankenship. Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Anderson, Pembroke, and Donnie Anderson, Pulaski; two daughters, Nancy Calfee, Pembroke, and Sue Jones, Narrows; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Pembroke Christian Church with the Rev. Terry Willis, Pastor, and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in the Anderson Cemetery at Mt. View in Giles County. The family will receive friends at the Kenda ll Funeral Home in Pembroke Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

BARNETT, Ruth St. Clair, 72, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Virgil H. St. Clair and Samuel W. Barnett. She attended Penn Forest Weslyan Church. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra S. Puckett; grandchildren, Larry G. Puckett Jr. and wife, Amy D. Puckett, Brian S. Puckett; great-granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Puckett; special friend, Robert Guthrie; brothers-in-law, Lynwood Barnett and wife, Fran, all of Roanoke, Eugene Barnett and wife, Betty, of Salem; many other friends and relatives, including Michael and Assunta St. Clair, of Roanoke, Patricia Jones, of California, and Gregg and Pat Hillyer, of Ohio. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 10 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995. The Rev. Gregory Reynolds, Rev. David Vanderpool, and the Rev. Greg Hornback will officiate. BISHOP, Treva Miller, 82, of Riner, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at Radford Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Otho E. Bishop; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Eleanor Bishop, Roanoke; one daughter, Sharon Holdren, Riner, two granddaughters and their husbands, Alicia and Ronnie Boles, Mt. Airy, N.C., Carmen and Russell Dickerson, Reidsville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jaunita Terry, Texas; a brother, Ivan B. Miller, Christiansburg; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Kanney, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. BROWN, Charles F., (''Fred''), 82, of 101 Spring Drive, Huddleston, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Doris Rees Brown, Huddleston; a daughter, Francine Brown Milks, and husband, William, of New Hope, Pa.; two granddaughters, Lisa and Britta; a stepbrother, Robert Ehle, and wife, Joy, of Jamesville, N.Y. Mr. Brown was born on April 15, 1913 in Syracuse, N.Y. to the late Frederick and Grace Brown. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 with a degree in education and psychology. He taught social studies for several years, then took further graduate work to become a school psychologist. Upon retiring in 1972, Fred and Doris built a home at Smith Mountain Lake. Funeral services will be private, but friends will be received at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Novemb er 11, 1995. No flowers please. Memorial donations to the Salvation Army will be appreciated.

BURNETT, Charlie Roff, 71, of Alta Vista and Smith Mountain Lake, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born June 3, 1924, he was the son of the late F. Luther and Cova Roff Burnett. He was a retired building contractor and a member of the Central Virginia Home Builders Association. Surviving are his wife, Eva H. Burnett of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane B. and Wilbert Trisler, Jonesville, LA; a son, Richard R. Burnett, Alta Vista; four grandchildren and their s pouses, Angie T. and Keith Huff, Virginia Beach, Evan Trifler, Jonesville, LA, Kim B. and Rex Scott, Hurt, Greg Burnett, Hurt; two great grandchildren, Amanda L. and Samantha L. Scott, both of Hurt; two sisters and brother-in-law, Alice and Joe Richardson, Henry, Ileta and Stafford Nolen, Ferrum; three brothers and sister-in law, Paul and Deniece Burnett, Rocky Mount, William and Irene Burnett and Bob Burnett, all of Ferrum; several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995, at the Burnett Family Cemetery, Ferrum, with the Elder Clarence Stone officiating. ELDER, William Henry, 82, of Salem, died Thursday, November 9, 1995, at his home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Foster Elder; a daughter, Judy Elder Pendleton of Roanoke County; a grandson, G. Jason Pendleton of Emory and Henry College, and three sisters, Emma McClough of Havre de Grace, Md., Leona Marstin of Red House and Norma Adams of Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, November 11, 1995, at the Lotz Salem Chapel with Dr. Carl Collins officiating. FRANCISCO, Virgie B., 87, of Salem, died Thursday, November 9, 1995. She was a long time Salem resident and had previously owned and operated the Greenlawn Nursing Home in Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Francisco; sons, Willis M. and Robert J. Francisco; a granddaughter, Debra M. Francisco. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil A. and Betty Francisco, Salem, Earl E. and Dottie Francisco, Roanoke, David L. and Darlene Francisco, Salem; brother, Wiley Boothe; sisters, Dorothy Ferris, Myrtle Kelley, Junie Crowder; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, at noon in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Mark W. Nicholas officiating. JENNINGS, Wade Hampton, 83, of North Tazewell, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital. Born on May 20, 1912, in Horsepen, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Sophoir Presley Jennings. He was a member of the Adria Advent Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth L. Jennings. Survivors include two daughters, Pam J. McGlothlin of Roanoke and Betty J. Surface of Marion; one son, Louis W. Jennings of Reston; one sister, June Tobler of North Tazewell, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995, at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, with the Rev. Don Elswick officiating. O'DELL, Phillip, (``Pete""), 35, of Roanoke, formerly of Matoaka, W. Va., died Wednesday, November 8,1995 at his home Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he was a son of the late William H. (Lundy) O'Dell and Iris Asbury O'Dell of Henry, Va. He was a self-employed car wholesaler. He is survived by his wife, Michele York O'Dell, of the home; one son, Phillip O'Dell; one brother, Marty O'Dell, Glenwood, W. Va.; and one sister, Mrs. Paul (Diana Donna) Lilly of Henry Co., Va. PARKER, Katherine Martin, 83, of Snow Creek, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 1995, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Born October 4, 1912, a daughter of the late William H. and Matilda Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband W. Wilson Parker; a sister, Eliza J. Love; and a brother, Oliver C. Martin. Surviving are two brothers, William P. (Pat) Martin, Martinsville and Rob Roy Martin, South Carolina; four nephews; two nieces; several great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Bernard and Lucille Cooper, Salem. ROBERTS, James Ernest Sr., 71, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at his home. Born in Newport, Ark. on May 17, 1924, he was the son of the late James Green and Sarah Anna Fivecoat Roberts. He was an Entomologist at Va. Tec h from December of 1969 until his retirement in August of 1988. Dr. Roberts was a member and Deacon of the Blacksburg Baptist Church, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 182, Past District Governor of District 66 Toastmasters International, Past High Priest of Royal Arch Chapter #65, Blacksburg, for four years, State President of County Agriculture Agents Association, Past President of Local A.A.R.P. Chapter, and served on the A.A.R.P. State Legislative Committee. Surviving are his wife, Lula Wright Roberts; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah J. and Robert McPherson, Baltimore, Md., and Patricia G. and Bob Collins, Tampa, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, James E. Jr. and Cathy Roberts, Muskogee, Okla.; three brothers, Felix L. Roberts, Burton, Mich., Bill J. Roberts and Thomas R. Roberts, both of Searcy, Ark.; four granddaughters; two grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995 at the Blacksburg Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Dorman and Dr. Don McKinney officiating. RYE, Della Jeanette, 86, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995. She died peacefully at home with her daughters by her side. Mrs. Rye was born December 13, 1908, in Bluefield, Va., and was a member of Belmont Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Rye and a grandson, Michael Allen Tankesley. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank A. and Sue Rye, Bluefield, Va., William A. Rye, Charles A. and Jeanne Rye, all of Roanoke; two daughters and son-in-law, Hazel E. Lawson, Kathleen E. and Robert Tankesley, all of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special caregiver, Ellen Richardson. Mrs. Rye was an angel on earth who will be sadly missed by her family and she will be an angel in heaven where she will be warmly welcomed eternally. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Elliott Hipp. The family will receive friends from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakey's North Chapel.

SLAGLE, Thelma Commings, 82, of Roanoke, died Thursday, November 9, 1995. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Laura Commings of Virginia Beach and is survived by a son, Stewart Slagle of Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter, Shirley Long of Roanoke; two grandsons; and a great-grandson. Born in Hazleton, Pa., Mrs. Slagle was formerly of Norfolk, Va. a retired school teacher with 35 years of service with the school systems of Princess Anne County, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Her most recent tenure was at Trantwood Elementary School at Virginia Beach, from which she retired in 1975. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. SLOAN, Luci A., 31, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, November 8, 1995. She was a registered nurse for 10 years, and was preceded in death by her father, John R. Sloan. Surviving are her mother, Nadine Nichols Sloan, Callaway; brothers, Ronald Sloan and wife, Sarah, Roger Sloan and wife, Lynna, Johnny Sloan, Eric Sloan and wife, Rhonda, and Joey Sloan; sisters, Wanda S. Hodges, Judy Parker and husband, Ray; nieces and nephews, Ronnie Joe, Bobby, Kathy, Katherine, Wade, Jennifer, Chad, Rachael, Adam, Katrina, Brandon, and Morgan. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 1995. The Rev. Robert Schneider and the Rev. Robert Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery, Franklin County. St.CLAIR, Edna Lena, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 1995. She was the widow of Nugent S. St.Clair.
