CLARK SIGNS $4.2 MILLION BOOK DEAL

Marcia Clark, who was unable to convict O.J. Simpson of double murder, signed the third most lucrative nonfiction book contract in the history of U.S. publishing Thursday.

Viking-Penguin announced it will pay the deputy district attorney $4.2 million for the world hard- and soft-cover rights to a manuscript that will be produced with the help of an as-yet-unnamed co-author. Only Gens. Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf, have received more lucrative deals

Clark's co-counsel in the Simpson case, Deputy District Attorney Christopher Darden has secured a $1.5 million book advance.

According to a Viking source, Clark's book will be ``a strong indictment of the criminal justice system from her point of view. It will also be the the definitive O.J. courtroom account.''
