WASHINGTON - Stung by a televised report showing Food Lion Inc. employees repackaging tainted meat, the company tried to polish its image last year with the results of a federal inspection praising its sanitary practices.
Now investigators are asking whether someone at the Food and Drug Administration told the company in advance which stores would be inspected. Food Lion denies any wrongdoing.
The allegations were made in sworn depositions by four Food Lion supervisors who have sued the company for alleged age discrimination. Copies of the depositions were obtained by The Associated Press
The depositions were sealed this summer by the federal judge in North Carolina who is hearing the supervisors' lawsuit. An attorney representing the supervisors said Friday the four were interviewed by FDA investigators this week.
FDA spokesman Don McLearn confirmed the investigation was under way. ``It's an ongoing investigation, and that's about all I can tell you,'' he said.

Daleville's R&B gets new logo
R&B Communications of Daleville has adopted a new corporate logo and has renamed several of its subsidiary companies, the company announced this week.
The move was made because of the changing nature of the telecommunications business and the formation of several new subsidiaries to take advantage of new business opportunities, the company said. The move will help the company increase customer awareness of its many related companies, R&B said.
Earlier this year, Botetourt Communications, a holding company, changed its name to R&B Communications, and it was decided to start referring to Roanoke & Botetourt Telephone Co. as R&B Telephone. Other R&B subsidiary companies, with the exception of The Beeper Company, have adopted the R&B prefix.
The company's new logo is a diamond shape with three sparkles.

Arden parent reports earnings
Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch parent of Elizabeth Arden Co. of Roanoke, reported third quarter net profit equivalent in U.S. currency to $724 million, or $2.74 per share, on revenue of $12.49 billion, compared with year-earlier $693 million, or $2.49 per share, on revenue of $11.74 billion. For the nine months, net profit was $1.79 billion, or $6.76 per share, on revenue of $33.62 billion, compared with year-earlier $1.75 billion, or $6.09 per share, on revenue of $33.36 billion.
