WOLF-DOGS, STORE UP FOR HEARING

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings Monday on a proposal to ban wolf-dog hybrids and on a rezoning for a farm-supply store in Riner.

The hearings will begin at 7 p.m. on the third floor of the Montgomery County Courthouse.

The first hearing will be on the proposed rezoning of 5.6 acres across Virginia 8 from the Riner Volunteer Fire Department. Xpress Market Inc. has applied for the rezoning from agricultural to general business status for a farm-supply store and future commercial uses.

The second hearing will be for a measure that would prohibit the possession of wolf-hybrid dogs in Montgomery County without the issuance of a special permit by the Board of Supervisors. The ordinance would not apply in Christiansburg and Blacksburg.

The board is scheduled to vote on the wolf-dog proposal later Monday, but not on the Xpress Market decision.
