MAN WHO SHOOK 2-MONTH-OLD GETS 10 DAYS, 'ABUSER' LABEL

A Bedford County man convicted of felony child abuse will serve 10 days in jail for shaking a 2-month-old girl so hard that her head touched her back.

Kevine Lee Dillon, 22, faced up to 10 years in prison. He was sentenced to a year in prison. However, all but 10 days of that was suspended.

Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Krantz said Dillon had no history of violent behavior. However, Krantz added, "This sends a message that Mr. Dillon committed a felony ... and will suffer the consequences of being a convicted child abuser."

A sheriff's deputy testified at a preliminary hearing that Dillon confessed to shaking the baby so she would stop crying earlier this year.

Dillon is not related to the infant and was minding her for her mother.

Though the child had seizures after the attack, doctors said she probably didn't suffer permanent neurological damage.
