CHILD CARE COALITION GETS NEW LEADER

Robin Hammerstrom has been named executive director of Roanoke's Child Health Investment Partnership.

Hammerstrom, who has served as senior vice president for Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge for 10 years, will assume CHIP's top position on Monday. As executive director, she will work with CHIP's board of directors to plan, develop, manage and evaluate operations.

CHIP is a private-public coalition founded in Roanoke seven years ago to provide basic health care for Roanoke Valley children living at or below the federal poverty level. CHIP now has 10 sites statewide.

Roanoke's CHIP serves about 1,500 children under age 6 in Roanoke and Salem and Roanoke, Botetourt and Craig counties.

Hammerstrom succeeds Peggy Balla, who left the agency this summer to head the Roanoke Adolescent Health Partnership.

Hammerstrom serves on the board of directors of the Community School in Roanoke County and is a member of the National Society for Human Resource Management and the society's Roanoke Valley affiliate.
