THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Tony Randall married a 25-year-old understudy, Heather Harlan Friday in New York.

The 75-year-old widower, his eyes brimming with tears, tied the knot at City Hall with Mayor Rudolph Giuliani presiding. Both are appearing in "School for Scandal." which opens Sunday on Broadway.

In a simple, 17th century English ceremony, Randall slipped the ring on Harlan's finger.

"It was so simple and so touching," Randall said afterward. "He spoke of two people becoming one. I'm afraid I'm a sucker for that sort of thing."

The actor's wife of 54 years, Florence, died in 1992 after a long struggle with cancer.

Randall, star of dozens of movies and Broadway plays, is best known for his television role of the persnickety Felix in the "Odd Couple."

The couple had no honeymoon planned. After the ceremony, they left for an afternoon rehearsal for "Scandal."
