APOSTOLOU, Katina F., 69, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, November 17, 1995 at her home. She was born November 25, 1925 in Karpenision, Greece and emigrated to the United States in May of 1951. She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Apostolou and was co-owner of the Junior Lunch Restaurant on Franklin Road for over 40 years. Mrs. Apostolou was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Evrytania. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann A. and Ed L. Deeds, Roanoke, Diane A. and Pete D. Psihogios, Knoxville, Tenn., Iris A. and James J. Karahalios, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory J. and Maria A. Apostolou, Roanoke; four grandchildren, John Michael Deeds, Alexis Psihogios, James Psihogios and John James Karahalios; two sisters, Voula Kuchikonas, Koula Kukios, both of Greece; a brother, Dionysios Frangalios, Greece; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 11 am. Monday, November 20,1995 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Nicholas G. Bacalis officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. There will be a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and after 6:30 pm. BEATTY, Bernard Lewis, 84, of Salem, died Friday, November 17, 1995 in a local hospital. He was a native of Roanoke County and a long time Salem resident. He was employed as a manager with Leggett Department Store for 18 years and went on to open and operate the Piedmont Department Store in Salem. He retired in 1970. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Salem, where he was a former Sunday School Treasurer and Church Deacon. He enjoyed his involvement with the Meals on Wheels Program and as a time keeper with the Salem Rebel Hockey Team, and a longtime member of Salem Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Lee Lucas Beatty; daughter and son-in-law, Carole B. and Don Wedl, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Homer and Rushie Woolridge of Bedford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred M. and Gladys Beatty, J. Preston Beatty, Ralph H. and Margaret Beatty, all of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Sara Arlene B. and Clarence Moore, Roanoke; grandchildren, Stefanie and Courtney Wedl; stepgrandchildren, Teresa Burton, Tammy Lynn Woolridge; great-grandchild, Justin M. Burton; sister-in-law, Helen Overstreet. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, with the Rev. Tom Joyce officiating. CHATHAM, Joe M., 86, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 17, 1995. Joe was born in Elkins, N.C., educated in Winston-Salem, N.C., and devoted his working career to transportation with several railroads, trucking operations and Koppers Company, Inc., retiring in 1974 after 48 years. He served as a consultant for five more years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, the former Ivalee Stewart, and is survived by one sister, Miriam Bowers, Cupertino, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Stewart Matthews, Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Gilmore Bowers, Menlo Park, Calif., Diana Calaway, Winston-Salem, N.C., the Rev. James Chatham, Louisville, Ky., David S. Hollingsworth and Suzanne Meredith, Roanoke, Julia (``Judy"") Maier, Bethlehem, Pa., and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, November 20, 1995, with the Rev. William Ramey and Dr. Charles Easly officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. CLARK, George Albert, 70, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 17, 1995. He is survived by his longtime companion and friend, Libby Hagan; four daughters, Pam Harriss, Sylvia Turner, Brenda Rutledge, all of Atlanta, Ga., Terry Hunt, Illinois; one son, Chris Hunt, Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Bordens, Scottsburg, Ind.; two nieces of Scottsburg, Ind. He will be missed by his many friends in Richmond and Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.

CRAWFORD, Janet Lee, 59, of Bolt, W.Va., died Saturday, November 18, 1995, in a Beckley, W.Va., hospital following a short illness. Born on October 19, 1936, in Christiansburg, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Judith Jones Lockwood. Mrs. Crawford was employed for many years as a housekeeper with Montgomery County Board of Educa tion and Virginia Tech. She was preceded in death by a son, George Montgomery Bolt, in 1976. Survivors include her husband, Samuel Crawford, at home; a son, Philip Bolt of Christiansburg; a daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Judith) Caldwell of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Bruce and Cheryl Caldwell; a sister, Sally Dowdy of Virginia Beach, and a daughter-in-law, April Smith Caldwell of Christiansburg. CRONISE, Harry W. Jr., 71, of Roanoke, passed away Friday evening, November 17, 1995, at his residence. He was a naval veteran of World War II and the retired president of Diamond Systems of Virginia, Inc. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice B. Cronise; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael Lee and Cindy Cronise, Daytona Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Alisha Cronise; two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn C. Hill, Roanoke, and Mrs. Lois C. Cohn, Petersburg. Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside, Sherwood Burial Park at 11 a.m., Monday, with Pastor David Miller officiating. DEACON, Ann Metz, 65, of 616 Addams Street, Covington, died Thursday, November 16, 1995 in Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mrs. Deacon was born September 27, 1930 in Richmond, Va., the daughter of the late Ralph V. and Doris Rupert Metz. She was a 1951 graduate of Rand olph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg. In 1982, she received her Masters of Education degree from the University of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude William Deacon in 1959. Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth S. ``Betsy"" Deacon of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons, C. W. ``Bill"" Deacon Jr. of Covington and Robert R. Deacon of Roanoke; and two grandchildren. JACKSON, Clara Elizabeth Grice, 89, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 17, 1995 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was retired from Roanoke Times-World News, with 27 years service. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Georgia Ann Jackson, Roanoke; one brother, Sherman R. Grice Sr., Roanoke.
