CHILDREN FIND WOMAN'S BODY

The body of a woman was found over the weekend by children playing on a discarded mattress, shortly after police arrested the man accused of killing her.

Vanessa Tucker, 28, had been shot to death at her Henrico County home, police said. Her body was dumped in Richmond about 4 miles from her house and discovered Saturday by children who saw a leg sticking out from under the mattress.

Gerard Camper, 20, was arrested at a motel and charged with murder after the desk clerk realized he was wanted by authorities and called Richmond police. Camper had registered at the motel a half-hour earlier using his own name.

Neighbors said Tucker had let Camper and his wife and baby stay with her for about a month during the summer because they had no other place to live. Robbery was a possible motive for the slaying, police said.
