BLACKWELL, Justin Thomas, 14 months, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, November 17, 1995. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers, John Andrew Blackwell and James Murphy, and great-great-grandfather, James W. Murphy. Surviving are his parents, Angela Dawn and Thomas James Blackwell Jr.; a brother, Thomas James Blackwell III; grandparents, Jean and Thomas James (``Tom"") Blackwell, Ramona and Michael Coveny, all of Rocky Mount, Michael Musselwhite of Roanoke; great-grandparents, Nora and Leonard Mason, Doris Prillaman Blackwell, Jean and Herbert Musselwhite, all of Rocky Mount, Mae Murphy of Spencer; great-great-grandmothers, Annie P. Murphy, Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Stuart, Virginia Taylor, Plant City, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Gary Blackwell, Dominick and Suabrina Greco, Michele Musselwhite, Jessee Musselwhite, all of Rocky Mount, Diona and Russell Thompson, Fincastle, and several cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 1995, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor R. Stephen Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell family cemetery, Route 847, Sydnorsville. ABSHIRE, Roy Cecil, 74, of Stewartsville, died Sunday, November 19,1995. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Shay Abshire; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Myra Abshire; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo A. and William E. Bishop, all of Stewartsville; two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, David R. and Michelle Benner, Roanoke, Dwayne R. Rutrough, Fincastle; one granddaughter, Casey Jean Abshire, Stewartsville; two great-granddaughters, Micci Benner, Roanoke, Icia Benner, Roanoke; three stepgranddaughters, April Estes, Stewartsville, Amy Batiz, Fincastle, Robyn Schaffer, Atlanta, Ga.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Hanna and William Batiz, Fincastle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Woodrow W. and Roselia Abshire, Copper Hill, C. ATKINS, Carrie Vaughan, 100, of Route 1, Independence, the Carsonville Community, passed away Sunday, November 19, 1995, in Radford Community Hospital. She was the widow of James M. Atkins. Born on September 19, 1895, in Surry County, N.C., she was reared by an uncle and aunt, Emmett B. and Mary W. Atkins. She attended Radford University and the University of Virginia. Mrs. Atkins was a retired school teacher, having taught in Wise and Grayson Counties. She was a very active and supportive member of the Summerfield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Estelle B. Atkins. Surviving are a son, James E. Atkins of Independence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Carroll Mason of Radford, and Nancy and Marshall Bailey of Charlotte Court House; two granddaughters, Cynthia Vaughan Bailey of Richmond and Marsha B. Lambert of Chesapeake, and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Ann Lambert of Chesapeake. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November, 21, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence. Interment will be in Summerfield Cemetery. Elder Jess B. Higgins and the Rev. Virginia Eminhizer will officiate. Bradford, both of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Gary Swink, Lexington; two brothers and sister-in-law, Lewis Bradford, Burwell and Bernice Bradford, both of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Jeremy Swink and Amy Swink; mother-in-law, Mary L. CHATHAM, Joe M., 86, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 17, 1995. Joe was born in Elkins, N.C., educated in Winston-Salem, N.C., and devoted his working career to transportation with several railroads, trucking operations and Koppers Company, Inc., retiring in 1974 after 48 years. He served as a consultant for five more years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, the former Ivalee Stewart, and is survived by one sister, Miriam Bowers, Cupertino, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Stewart Matthews, Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Gilmore Bowers, Menlo Park, Calif., Diana Calaway, Winston-Salem, N.C., the Rev. James Chatham, Louisville, Ky., David S. Hollingsworth and Suzanne Meredith, Roanoke, Julia (``Judy"") Maier, Bethlehem, Pa., and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, November 20, 1995, with the Rev. William B. Ramey Jr. and Dr. Charles Easley officiating. COLLINS, Minnie M., 78, of Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, passed away Sunday, November 19,1995. She was the widow of Russell W. Collins Sr.. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Bib Simmons, Mona and Noah Ferris and Diane, George Adams; son, Russell W. ``Bill} Collins, all of Roanoke; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alda Taliaferro, Roanoke and Mae Soners, Salem. CROMER, Geraldine Jeanettie, 50, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, November 16,1995 at Duke University. Born in Pulaski County, Va. on August 27, 1945, she was the daughter of the late James Paul Alley and is survived by her mother, Lennie H. Alley, Dublin. Also surviving are her husband, Harvey E. (Butch) Cromer; three daughters, Debbie Lynn Bowman and Jackie Hilton, both of Blac ksburg, and Pamela Sue Myers, Atkins; one son, Walter Ray Myers Jr., Salem; two sisters, Rita Bryant, Floyd and Sharon Hernandez, Pulaski; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 20, 1995 at Highland Memorial Gardens Chapel, Dublin, with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating. DIECKMANN, Florence Ruth, 79, of Roanoke, formerly of New York, died Saturday, November 18, 1995 at Wythe county Community Hospital. She was born November 14, 1916 in New York. She taught nursery school for 15 years on Long Island and five additional years as Nursery School Director at the YWCA of the Roanoke Valley. After retirement, she was involved in a variety of volunteer activities for the LOA, Roanoke County Recreation Dept., Youth Haven II, Youth Support Services, Department of Social Services, Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and the Free Clinic. She was an active member of the Shenandoah Baptist Church. Her recognitions include WDBJ's Hometown Hero, Good Samaritan Award, 1995, Roanoke Civitan Club, Golden Rule Award, J.C. Penney's Sward, Volunteer Service Award, Roanoke County Parks and Recreation, Mission Possible Award, Rescue Mission and many more. She was affectionately known as ``Ms. Button"" to many friends because of her love for antique buttons. She was a beloved mother to Linda Florence Severn of Salem, Judith Ellen Hall of Wytheville and Douglas Dieckmann of Houlton, Maine. She was also very much loved by her grandchildren, Todd David Severn of Salem, Ashley Renee Hall and Lindsay Allison Hall of Wytheville, Amanda Marie Dieckmann and Joshua Douglas Dieckmann of Holton, Maine and her great-granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Severn of Salem. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, November 20, 1995, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem. ELLIS, Herbert H., 66, of Salem, died Friday, November 17, 1995, after a long battle with an illness. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital, where he had worked for 32 years. He was saved and baptized at West Salem Baptist Church, where he was a member. Herbert was a veteran and served in the United States Navy.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Esther M. Ellis; children, Herbie Ellis, Jane Bobbit, Debbie Garret, all of Salem, Steve Ellis of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Stephanie and Chris Garret, Kara Bobbit, Nick and Linsey Ellis; sisters, Marcella Lee, Minnie Jo Byrd, Shirley Hess and Doris Worrell, and brothers, Eddie, James, Billy, Bobby and Harold Ellis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Ellis. Funeral services will be held at the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel in Salem at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 1995, with the Rev. She was a member of Grace Baptist Temple, Roanoke and was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard W. Prillaman, a son, Leonard W. (Buster) Prillaman, also a great-grandson, G. W. Wilson Jr. She is the beloved mother of three daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys C. and Lewis C. Huff of Michigan, Mary Sue and James L. (``Bill"") Hancock, Roanoke, Gloria P. and Jerry Fox, Moneta. Grandchildren are Carol and husband, Joseph R. SHAVER, Christian Camille, (``Chris""), 77, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, November 19, 1995, at Highland Manor Nursing Home in Dublin following a long illness. Mrs. Shaver was born November 27, 1918, at Ronceverte, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Ira B. and Nellie Tom Hagar Stone. She was a resident of Blacksburg for 55 years, and was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church of Blacksburg. She was a retired employee of Virginia Tech. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas B. Shaver, in 1990. Surviving are two sons, Thomas B. Shaver and R. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 1995, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel in Ronceverte, with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

STEVENSON, Mary Rebecca Talley, 77, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, November 18,1995 in a Roanoke hospital. She was born October 30,1918 in Petersburg, a daughter of the late Alexander W. Talley and Blanche Neaves Talley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis Stevenson, a son, John Gregory Stevenson and an infant granddaughter, Jessica Stevenson. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, the Blue Ridge Garden Club, the Friday Book Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Angie Stevenson III, Walla Walla, Washington, Wayne T. and Deborah Stevenson, Abington, Massachusetts, James S. and Brenda Stevenson, DeSoto, Texas, Matthew Brian and Colette Stevenson, Annapolis, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Cecilia and Howard Bullen, Roanoke; a sister, Lucia T. Carter, Bedford; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 21,1995 at 11 a.m., from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Glen Langston and Dr. Carl H. Douglass Jr. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford, and request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Main Street United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

UNDERWOOD, Andrew Avery, 87, of Route 2, Dublin, died Sunday, November 19, 1995, in Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born in Pulaski County on January 1, 1908, the son of the late William M. Underwood and Eliza Lou Tabor Underwood. Mr. Underwood had been a barber for over 40 years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Julia Underwood Vaughan and Mrs. Maxie Underwood Harrison of Pulaski; four nephews, a nd one niece. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Benton J. Trawick officiating. WRIGHT, Harold, (``Buford""), of 440 West King Street, Bedford, departed this life Saturday, November 18, 1995, at the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 9, 1925, to the late Dave and Pinkie Wright. At his death, he was a member of the New Life Baptist Church. He leaves to mourn his death two children, Phillip Gene Wright and Bren da Wright McNeill of Bedford; two brothers, James L. Wright of Bedford and Melvin Wright of Richmond; one uncle, Dennis Wright of Big Island; a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
