WITH GA. TECH IN PICTURE, OUTLOOK NOT SO PEACHY

For anybody who thinks Virginia is a ``lock'' for the Peach Bowl, try reading Robert Dale Morgan's lips.

``I can assure you it's not a done deal at all,'' Morgan, the Peach Bowl's executive director, said late Monday afternoon.

Of course, Georgia Tech (6-4) must beat visiting Georgia on Thursday to have the six victories over Division I-A opposition required for bowl eligibility. If Georgia wins, the Peach Bowl will invite Virginia.

``A decision between Virginia and Georgia Tech [would be] a very big decision,'' said Morgan, whose bowl has the third choice of ACC teams. ``Quite frankly, we feel we are in an ideal situation.''

Unconfirmed reports out of Atlanta indicate that Georgia Tech would prefer to leave town for a bowl game, which would make them a more likely pick for the Carquest Bowl in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

``They haven't told me that,'' Morgan said.

If the Peach Bowl invites Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets are obligated to accept the bid, but it is not common bowl policy to invite teams that want to play elsewhere.
