BROWN, BRICE GET CHOSEN ALL-AMERICAN

Virginia Tech defensive end Cornell Brown and Virginia punter Will Brice were named to the Football Writers Association of America's first-team All-American squad announced Tuesday.

Brown, who earlier in the day was chosen as The Football News' Big East Conference defensive player of the year, enjoyed his best season ever for the 9-2 Hokies.

The 6-foot-2, 246-pound junior recorded a career-high and Big East-high 14 sacks this season. In all, Brown registered 25 tackles for loss, totaling 142 yards.

Brown was one of four Tech defenders named to The Football News' all-conference team. He was joined on the squad by senior tackle J.C. Price, senior free safety William Yarborough and junior rover Torrian Gray. Junior center Billy Conaty was Tech's lone selection on offense.

Brice, a junior, ranked third in the ACC in punting for the Cavaliers (8-4), with a 41.2-yard average.
