NO. 6 VIRGINIA PUMMELS PITT

Monick Foote and Wendy Palmer combined for 52 points, nearly outscoring Pitt by themselves, as sixth-ranked Virginia pounded the Panthers 103-56 on Saturday night at University Hall in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers, rebounding from a season-opening loss to Tennessee, built an 18-point halftime lead and emptied their bench. Foote scored 27 points, going 6-for-6 from 3-point range, and Palmer had 25 points and 10 rebounds.

``Foote had radar tonight,'' said Kirk Bruce, Pitt's coach. ``Every time she put it up, it was going in the middle of the basket.''

Tora Suber added 17 points and six assists, and freshman Demya Walker grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as UVa controlled the boards 57-28 en route to its 56th consecutive home victory.

``The Tennessee game helped a lot because it exposed some weaknesses,'' said Debbie Ryan, the Cavaliers' coach. ``But more than that, it helped the team come together.''

Stephanie Petho scored 18 points and Gina Montesano added 10 for the Panthers (0-1).
