JOHN CRAVEN, HISTORIC TV ACTOR, DIES

John Craven, an actor who appeared in the first live TV series, died at home Friday. He was 79.

After starring in ``The Egg and I'' with Pat Kirkland, he went on to appear in many other series, including episodes of ``The Twilight Zone,'' ``Wyatt Earp,'' ``Gunsmoke,'' ``Playhouse 90,'' ``Ford Theater'' and ``Hitchcock Presents.''

Craven also acted in movies, including ``The Human Comedy,'' ``The Purple Heart,'' ``Friendly Persuasion'' and ``Oceans Eleven'' with Frank Sinatra.

On Broadway, his credits included ``Our Town,'' ``Babes in Arms'' and ``Candida.''
