FEDEX UPS WAGES, HAS NEW RULES

Federal Express Corp. gave its pilots a raise and announced Sunday that it was imposing new work rules at the heart of snagged contract negotiations.

Pilots' hourly pay will go up an average of 4 percent in December. Increases will range from 1.8 percent to 6.7 percent, with the largest raises going to veterans.

Pilots were negotiating for their first contract with the package hauler since the Air Line Pilots Association won certification in 1993, when the company rejected the last offer submitted before a federally ordered cooling-off period ended at midnight Friday.
