N.C. MAN KILLED NEAR STATE LINE

Henry County and North Carolina police are investigating the slaying of an Eden, N.C., man who may have been shot in Virginia.

The body of Richard Scott Powell, 33, was found about 4:30 p.m. Saturday inside his truck, which was parked along Route 770 in Rockingham County, N.C., according to the Henry County Sheriff's Department.

Powell and an unidentified man had stopped about 3 a.m. Saturday at a residence on Virginia 610 in Sandy Level, a community near the state line that is associated with illegal drug activity, police said.

Henry County Investigative Sgt. Kimmy Nester said Monday that Powell ``attempted to purchase drugs and may have been ripped off.''
