BEDFORD COUNTY TO PAY RETIREES FOR SICK DAYS

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday to reimburse retiring Sheriff's Office employees for their unused sick days.

All other county and constitutional office employees in Bedford already receive the retirement benefit, which reimburses employees for up to 20 percent of their unused sick leave or $2,500, whichever is less.

Retiring Sheriff Carl Wells asked the board to fund the policy this month.

Four employees, including Wells, will retire at the end of the year, which should cost the county about $10,000.
