Civil War program

ROANOKE - A. Wilson Greene will speak at a meeting of the Roanoke Civil War Round Table Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. Greene, director of the N.W. Pamplin Park Civil War site, will discuss the site's historical relevance and the park's current development.

AAUW fund-raiser

BLACKSBURG - The American Association of University Women will sell pecan halves and New Hampshire maple syrup Dec. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m outside Bonomo's Inc. on University City Boulevard.

All funds raised will be for AAUW's Educational Foundation for women. The Blacksburg branch donated $1,500 to the foundation's Eleanor Roosevelt Fund last year. This fund recognizes outstanding teachers who demonstrate their willingness to provide educational equity for women.

Advent art exhibit

BLACKSBURG - An art exhibit, "Advent: A Season of Anticipation," featurig works by 24 regional artists, opens Sunday, Dec. 3, at Glade Baptist Church, 1600 Glade Road. An open house and reception for the artists runs from 3 to 6 p.m. with musical presentations at 3:30 and 5 p.m.

The exhibit will remain on display through Dec. 23. Hours are Mondays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m.; and Sundays, following the 11 a.m. worship service until 4 p.m. Appointments also are available by calling 552-3394.

Contra dancing

BLACKSBURG - A new dance group, the Blacksburg Contra Connection, will have a dance Saturday, Dec. 2, at Northside Presbyterian Church, 1017 N. Progress St. It starts at 8 p.m.

Contra dancing is traditional New England line and circle dancing to a variety of lively tunes, including reels, jigs, marches, rags and jazz.

West coast caller Woody Lane will teach the steps at Saturday's dance. Roaring Jello, a band playing Celtic and old-time music, will perform.

Beginners are invited to come early for dance tips. Admission is $5.

ROANOKE - The American Red Cross Appalachian Regional Blood Services will collect blood in December at these locations:
