Pulaski County is getting $450,000 in state transportation funds to make road improvements that will serve Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp.'s 300,000-square-foot addition to its manufacturing plant.
The money, which was approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board at its November meeting, will be used to install a traffic signal and turn lanes at the intersection of Virginia 683 and Virginia 643 and a turn lane at the intersection of Virginia 683 and Virginia 100.
Funding also will be used for preliminary engineering work in widening Virginia 683.
Volvo GM is building a new cab assembly plant and a high volume paint facility, which is expected to open in late 1996.
The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors requested the money from the state's Industrial Access Funds in a resolution to the Commonwealth Transportation Board.
