WOMAN BEATEN, ROBBED AT HER HOME

Two men beat and robbed a 35-year-old woman in her Northwest Roanoke apartment early Friday.

Police gave this account of what happened: Betty Lou King returned to her Downing Street home about 1:29 a.m. and saw two men standing on the sidewalk.

Once she got inside her apartment, the men came to her door and asked her for a pen and some paper. As she attempted to get the items, the men pushed their way into her apartment.

One man grabbed her and beat her, while the other asked her where the money was, police said. King told them there was no money, but the man grabbed her purse. A neighbor heard King scream and saw two men walking from King's apartment.

Patrol officers found King in her apartment at the foot of the stairs. She was bleeding from the mouth, chin and neck, and was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley, police said.

A nurse at the hospital said there was no record of King being treated.

In another incident, a man robbed a Southwest Roanoke convenience store late Thursday night.

About 11:02, a man entered the the 7-Eleven store at 1410 Grandin Road holding an object under his shirt as if it were a gun, police said. A weapon never was displayed.

The man demanded money from the cash register, police said. He was given an undisclosed amount. The robber fled on a bicycle that was at the back of the store.

No one has been arrested in either incident.
