Dawn Major fired in 28 points, including seven 3-point goals, to lead Wilson Memorial to the Group A girls' state basketball championship Saturday at the Salem Civic Center.
The Hornets (25-5) defeated George Mason 59-48.
Former Glenvar athlete Kirk Johnson was the winning coach. It is his third state title in six years, but this time he didn't have 6-foot-5 center Angela Gorcisa, who now plays for Vanderbilt.
Major distinguished herself by making seven of nine 3-point attempts to set state-tournament records for the most 3-pointers and the highest percentage from that range in one game.
Wilson Memorial atoned for a Region B loss to George Mason.
George Mason (28-1) concentrated on stopping 5-11 Erin Perry, who had scored 30 in the semifinals. Jennifer Williams led George Mason with 16 points as the Mustangs managed to hit only 3 of 31 shots from 3-point range as a team.
