TANYA McLAURIN, a 1993 graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, has succeeded the Rev. J. Landon Maddex as director of Baptist Visitation Ministries of the Roanoke Valley Association. Maddex, now a resident of Richfield Retirement Community in Salem, had supervised the nursing home ministry since 1979 when he left a long pastorate at Villa Heights Baptist Church.

McLaurin will coordinate volunteers from many of the association's 70 congregations, matching them with nursing home residents for individual attention. Sandra McLaurin, the new director's mother, continues as office secretary for the ministry. The new director will work part time.

THE REV. JOHN DUNSTAN, pastor of Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the past five years, has become minister of Bedford Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

BONSACK BAPTIST CHURCH, 4845 Cloverdale Road, has scheduled two seasonal music programs. Sunday at 7 p.m., the choirs for children and youth, as well as instrumentalists, will perform in "The Christmas Tapestry."

On Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., the Chancel choir, Young Musicians and the orchestra will present "A Christmas Fantasia."

THE HEAVENLY NOTES, an adult choir at Preston Oaks Baptist Church, will sing the cantata, "Dawn of Redeeming Grace," on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. The 30-voice choir is directed by Susan Leffell. The church is at 102 Preston Ave. N.E.

CHOSEN PEOPLE MINISTRIES, an agency to convert Jews to Christianity, will be the focus of a program Sunday at Patterson Memorial Grace Brethren Church, 5512 Hollins Road. Larry Jaffrey, a representative, will discuss the Hanukkah festival of lights and the work of the organization.

THE REV. C. WARNER CRUMB, a retired minister of the Virginia Conference, is serving as interim pastor at Melrose Avenue United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard McNutt, pastor, is convalescing from heart surgery.

THE REV. WILLIAM HARDING has resigned after a five-year pastorate at Enon Baptist Church at Hollins. He has not announced his plans. His wife, Margaret Harding, the minister of education and youth at Grandin Court Baptist Church, said the couple plans to remain in the Roanoke Valley.

A CANTATA, "Love's Pure Light," will be presented Sunday at 5 p.m. by the Chancel Choir of Villa Heights Baptist Church, 4080 Challenger Ave. N.E. Anne Eakin is the director. A nursery will be available.

WILLIAMS MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH, 2105 Carroll Ave. N.W., has scheduled its Christmas cantata, "Lord of the Manger," for Sunday at 10 a.m. Richard English of Radford is director.

A COLONIAL CHRISTMAS is the theme of a musical dinner program on Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 17 at 12:30 p.m. at Grandin Court Baptist Church, 2660 Brambleton Ave. S.W. It features seasonal music by the sanctuary choir, adult ensemble, youth choir and handbell ringers. Tickets cost $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 10 and are available by calling 774-1684.

A CHRISTMAS ORATORIO by Camille Saint Saens will be the major musical work presented Sunday at the 11 a.m. service at Cave Spring United Methodist Church, 4505 Hazel Drive S.W. The work will include harp, string and woodwind accompaniment.

HIGHLAND PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 624 Ferdinand Ave. S.W., will present a Singing Christmas Tree program Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. Its choir will be augmented by members of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and Waverly Place Baptist churches.

WESTHAMPTON CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 2515 Grandin Road S.W., will have a seasonal music program on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. A cantata, "Let All Heaven and Nature Sing," will be performed by the church choir, augmented by singers from First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in downtown Roanoke.

THE REV. MARK W. RADECKE , pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, is the author of "God In Flesh Made Manifest," a collection of 17 messages for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. The $8.25 book may be obtained by calling 982-8334. Sales will benefit the parish's hurricane disaster relief fund.

KEVIN LAMB, a recent graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has started as minister of music and organist at Virginia Heights Baptist Church. A native of Tennessee, he took undergraduate study at Carson-Newman College. His wife, Holly , soon will begin directing the children's choir.

THE REV. DR. RUSSELL SMITH, a former associate pastor of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, has been inducted into a Roman Catholic organization, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Dating from the Crusades in Medieval Europe, the order helps preserve Christian shrines in Israel. Smith is president of the Pope John Center for the study of health care ethics in Boston.

CAROLS OF THE NATIONS will be presented Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church, 806 Jamison Ave. S.E. Directed by Hildegard Martin, the program will include a brass ensemble, harp trio and singing by the Chancel Choir and congregation. A reception will follow.

ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH, a new congregation whose ministry includes spiritual healing, is meeting temporarily at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1201 Hardy Road in Vinton. The congregation, which is subtitled Giver of Gifts, Friends Catholic Community Church, has services weekly on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and a healing service at 7 p.m. each second Thursday.

AT SALEM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, Main and Market streets in downtown Salem, Christmas music will be sung by the children's choir Sunday at the morning service. Portions of the "Messiah" by Handel will be sung Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. Both programs are directed by Jean Potts.
