CAROLS OF THE NATIONS will be presented Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church, 806 Jamison Ave. S.E. Directed by Hildegard Martin, the program will include a brass ensemble, harp trio and singing by the Chancel Choir and congregation. A reception will follow.

ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH, a new congregation whose ministry includes spiritual healing, is meeting temporarily at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1201 Hardy Road in Vinton. The congregation, which is sub-titled Giver of Gifts, Friends Catholic Community Church, has services weekly on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and a healing service at 7 p.m. each second Thursday.

TANYA McLAURIN, a 1993 graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, has succeeded the Rev. J. Landon Maddex as director of Baptist Visitation Ministries of the Roanoke Valley Association. Maddex, now a resident of Richfield Retirement Community in Salem, had supervised the nursing home ministry since 1979 when he left a long pastorate at Villa Heights Baptist Church.

McLaurin will coordinate volunteers from many of the association's 70 congregations, matching them with nursing home residents for individual attention. Sandra McLaurin, the new director's mother, continues as office secretary for the ministry. The new director will work part time.

BONSACK BAPTIST CHURCH, 4845 Cloverdale Road, has scheduled two seasonal music programs. Sunday at 7 p.m., the choirs for children and youth, as well as instrumentalists, will perform in "The Christmas Tapestry."

On Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., the Chancel choir, Young Musicians and the orchestra will present "A Christmas Fantasia."

THE REV. MARK W. RADECKE , pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, is the author of "God In Flesh Made Manifest," a collection of 17 messages for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. The $8.25 book may be obtained by calling 982-8334. Sales will benefit the parish's hurricane disaster relief fund.
