CONTENDER FOR SENATE NOMINATION TO VISIT SATURDAY

Leslie Byrne, who is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for the U.S. Senate next year, will visit the New River Valley on Saturday.

Byrne will appear at the Montgomery County Democratic Committee meeting at 10 a.m. at the county courthouse. She'll then visit the Radford Democrats' 10:30 a.m. meeting in the circuit courtroom at the city municipal building.

Finally, she will attend a fund-raising event at Montgomery County Supervisor Jim Moore's home, at 1607 Greenwood Drive in Blacksburg, at 2:30 p.m.

Montgomery and Radford Democrats are both electing committee members and officers Saturday, as well.

After one term in Congress, Byrne lost the 11th District House seat last year to Republican Tom Davis.

The Fairfax County resident had earlier served in the Virginia General Assembly. She and Northern Virginia businessman Mark Warner, a former state party chairman, are competing for the Democratic nod.

On the Republican side, former Reagan administration budget director Jim Miller announced this week that he will challenge Sen. John Warner for their party's nomination.

For more information on Byrne's visit, call Morton Nadler at 961-0804.
