The Town of Vinton is seeking a director of planning and zoning. Council approved the position during its meeting Tuesday.
Town Manager Clay Goodman told council members that the new position is needed because of a significant increase in planning and zoning issues during 1995.
"The new position would improve the town's ability to react to planning and zoning issues quicker and more accurately," Goodman said in a report to council.
A new director for planning and zoning issues would free Goodman and his assistant, Greg Secrist, to address other issues, Goodman said.
The new position will be advertised, and Goodman said he hopes to hire someone in time to begin work on Feb. 1. The salary level for the job will be determined during a salary study that starts Monday, and funds for the job will be taken out of the general fund for the rest of the fiscal year.
In another action, Council reappointed Brad Grose to a second four-year term on the planning commission.
