A Norfolk couple solved the mystery of the unclaimed $1.7 million Lotto jackpot - the winning numbers were drawn June 14 - on Friday when they produced the missing ticket.
Mac D. Spencer, 61, and his wife Beatrice, 58, of Norfolk, took the ticket to the Hampton regional office, according to a lottery department news release. The ticket was due to expire Monday.
Mac Spencer said he was watching television Friday when the numbers were flashed again. He asked his wife to get the ticket, which they'd never checked.
Beatrice Spencer said she "went and got the ticket, looked it over, and there it was.
"He told me we won, and I just started thanking the Lord," she said.
Winners have 180 days from a drawing to claim their prize. The couple will get about $58,000 a year after taxes for 20 years
