THREE UVA SOCCER PLAYERS GARNER KUDOS

Three members of the 1995 University of Virginia men's soccer team have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Umbro all-America teams.

Senior Brandon Pollard and junior forward Mike Fisher were named to the 11-player first team while senior midfielder Damian Silvera earned second team honors. Virginia has placed at least one player on the NSCAA all-America teams in each of the past 12 seasons, including 10 straight seasons with one or more first team selections.

In other news:

Trent Johnson, who swims for the Carter Center Marlins at North Cross, won the 50-meter freestyle in the Howard Johnson and Ground Round Invitational at Hargrave Military Academy.

Johnson's time of 21.52 seconds in the senior men's division qualified him for the Junior Nationals, which will be in Nashville, Tenn., in March.

Tommy Rappold's time of 27.73 in the men's 50 backstroke in the 11-12 division qualified as a top 16 time in the nation. Rappold also won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.53. Andy McCoy won the men's 11-12 100 fly with a time of 1:02.46.

Laura Dichtel won the women's 13-14 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.39. Blair Huffman took first in the women's 13-14 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:10.75.
