"The Nutcracker," everyone's favorite holiday ballet, comes to the stage Saturday and Sunday at the Roanoke Civic Center Auditorium.
The Southwest Virginia Ballet, directed by Terri Post, and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Glazebrook, will present "The Nutcracker" Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
A cast of more than 100 dancers from Southwest Virginia will perform the classic tale. Two guest artists and the Roanoke College Preparatory Children's Choir will join the company and orchestra in their presentation.
Local dancers Meghan Purves and Kari Brunson will alternate the lead role of Clara. Local actors and students from four area dance schools will participate.
Tickets for the performances are on sale now. For information, call the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra Box Office at 343-9127 Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m., or the Southwest Virginia Ballet at 387-3978, Monday-Thursday, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tickets also will be available at the door prior to each performance.
