Orange Ave. gas station to be sold

Richmond-based East Coast Oil Corp. plans to sell 11 of its 42 gas station and convenience store locations, including one on Orange Avenue in Roanoke.

Doug Jones, chief financial officer, said the stores that have been put up for sale are profitable and perform well. They do not, however, fit in with East Coast's plan to open larger superstores with expanded diesel facilities and fast-food counters. Roanoke's distance from Richmond headquarters and from the other East Coast locations - mostly around Richmond and Tidewater Virginia - also contributed to the decision to sell the Orange Avenue store.

Bids for the stores will be taken through December, Jones said.
