WOMAN, 23, RAPED AT HOLIDAY PARTY

Roanoke police said a 23-year-old woman reported she was raped at her company holiday party at a local motel early Saturday. Investigators would not release the location where the incident occurred or the name of the company involved pending an arrest.

Police gave this account of what happened: A male colleague asked the woman to attend a smaller party in his motel room at about 2 a.m. The woman went to the room and discovered there was no party. The man began to kiss the woman. When the woman attempted to leave, the man pushed her down on the bed and raped her.

The woman left the room and secured warrants with the magistrate for rape and forcible sodomy, police said. The woman was treated at a hospital in Radford, where she resides. The suspect has not been arrested because police said they have not been able to find him.

In other incidents:

Police said an armed robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the Uni-Mart at 1202 Jefferson St. S.W. early Monday morning. At about 1:34, a man walked up to the checkout counter holding a small chrome handgun and demanded all the money. The clerk gave the robber cash from the register.

A 41-year-old woman was mugged as she walked across the parking lot of a Northwest Roanoke store Sunday night. At about 6:30, Gloria A. Jennings of Southwest Roanoke was walking the parking lot of Best Products at 2823 Hershberger Road when a man ran up and grabbed her purse, police said.

Jennings pulled away from him and the robber hit her in the face, knocking her down. He fled the scene with her purse, which contained $100.
