Childcare of Virginia has new owners

Childcare of Virginia Inc., a private child-care company with locations in Salem, Roanoke, Roanoke County and Vinton, has been sold.

Charles and Ann Howard, who opened the first Child Care Center in 1968, have sold the business to Michael and Glenna Dunn. They plan to retire but will remain as consultants for four months. Terms of the sale, which was handled through Roanoke business brokers Bundy and Co., were not disclosed.

Michael Dunn, former co-owner of Happy's Recreation Center and Flea Market, will manage business aspects of the company. Glenna Dunn, who has worked in the public school system as a speech pathologist, will direct training and operations.

Child Care Centers were among the first private child-care facilities in the Roanoke Valley. They accept children from 16 months to 12 years old. The Dunns plan to add infant care at two of its four sites in early 1996. The company has 65 full-time employees.
