A GARDEN OF TREES will be planted in Israel under sponsorship of the Roanoke chapter of Hadassah, a Jewish women's philanthropic organization. The 100 trees will be a memorial to slain Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Each tree costs $5. Those who wish to donate may call Beth Israel Synagogue, 345-7943, for more information.
FIRST CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 2001 Carroll Ave. N.W., has scheduled a Christmas music program, "Now Is Come Our Salvation," on Sunday at 11 a.m. Produced by the Rev. Paul Alwine, pastor emeritus, it will feature the Chancel Choir. More music will be presented on Christmas Eve at the 11 p.m. Communion service.
MAPLE STREET BAPTIST CHURCH MEMBERS will visit a number of Roanoke Valley nursing homes at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. They will sing seasonal music for residents.
SIX CHORAL GROUPS will sing Christmas songs at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren on Dec. 24 at 10:30 a.m. The church's handbell ringers also will give a performance. Services for family and adults are scheduled at 5 and 11 p.m. The director of music is Garnett Carroll. The church is at 3110 Pioneer Road N.W.
PETERS CREEK CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 5325 Cove Road, will present a Christmas cantata, "Love Came Down," on Sunday at 11 a.m. A Christmas Eve Communion by candlelight service will begin at 6 p.m. and will include carols and Scripture readings.
HANDEL'S "MESSIAH," a classic oratorio with choruses relating to the coming of Christ, will be sung Sunday at 7 p.m. at Northview United Methodist Church, Plantation Road at Ridgecrest Drive in the Hollins area. Child care will be provided.
WOMEN'S AGLOW, an organization for those of charismatic Christian preference, has scheduled Phyllis Workman of Forest as its speaker Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. 15.
ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4515 Delray St. N.W., will present a seasonal musical, "The Christmas Story Through the Eyes of the Friendly Beasts," on Sundayf+bf-b as director.

THE REV. GENE B. EDMUNDS, associate pastor of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church since 1993, will leave the staff Dec. 31. Edmunds said her specific plans are undecided, but she is seeking a service ministry for needy people.

OAK GROVE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 2138 McVitty Road S.W., will combine a children's music program and a stocking-stuffing party for the Salvation Army and City Rescue Mission on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the church. A Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 6:30 p.m.
"CAROLS AROUND THE WORLD" will be the theme of the Chancel Choir and instrumentalists Sunday at 11 a.m. at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 S. Jefferson St. On Christmas Eve, the children's choirs will perform at 11 a.m. and the Chancel Choir with soloists at the 7:30 p.m. service.
THE FOOD PANTRY, which serves eligible needy people in Salem and Roanoke County, served 984 adults and 720 children in the first 11 months of 1995. This is an increase over last year's corresponding totals of 769 and 616, according to Barbara Bell, a coordinator. The pantry at South Market and Calhoun streets in downtown Salem is open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with more than 100 volunteer staffers from the community's churches. CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 845 Hemlock Road in Salem, will hold a Christmas Eve service. Lessons and carols will be presented at 7 p.m. with the church open for Communion until 9. The Adult Choir will present special music at the 11 a.m. service Christmas Eve.
THREE PERFORMANCES, one each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 7, are scheduled for "Seeing Christ In Christmas," a musical drama at Christian Life Fellowship, a Pentecostal Holiness congregation at 307 N. Bruffey St. in Salem.
A NATIVITY TABLEAU may be viewed Dec. 20 and 21 at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 703 Hemlock Road N.W. Viewings are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fellowship hall will be open, and hot chocolate will be served.
Because of the holidays, material for Dec. 28 must be received by noon Dec. 20, and material for Jan. 4 must be in by noon Dec. 27.
